who better than BT...

Accept the broadband deal - I only managed to get mine down to £14.99 (although they did also increase the speed to 6.7meg).
The offer on BT Together Option 2 is available to everyone and, IMHO, is not worth a light. They're offering you 'free' evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls for £2 per month (the average cost over the 18 months). You can get really free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls for no monthly fee with no contract tie-in from Primus Saver Option 2.
Click the 'HERE' link in my signature below to see a few other possibilities.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
If using Primus 2 how do the daytime prices and other types of calls (eg 0845, 0870,mobile) compare with BT.
Would like to set Mum up with the free evening/weekend calls on Primus but she won't want to remember to dial any override number for other calls0 -
Primus charge 2½p/minute for weekday daytime UK 01/02 calls (½p/minute less than BT).elektra wrote:If using Primus 2 how do the daytime prices and other types of calls (eg 0845, 0870,mobile) compare with BT.

Their mobile prices can be found via the link above (they're not cheap).
I'd strongly recommend she uses a 1280 prefix for all 08 calls because Primus don't appear to publish their rates and surprises may ensue! They were certainly very 'confused' with their pricing when they last replied by e-mail.
However, she'd save more if you opened a 18185 account for her and bought a LCR to insert the 18185 prefix on all her calls. The Orchid V2 would do that.

BarmyCow wrote:New to this board so apologies if this has already been discussed. In true MSE fashion, I phoned BT today to ask what they could do to bring down my costs as I have been such a lovely customer for them to have !;)
I am currently on BT Together Option 2 and although my intentions are good, I tend to get a bit complacent when it comes to shopping around - I like an easy life.:o
They have offered the following options and I just wondered what you all thought of these :
For landline calls, BT have offered me £11 per month for Option 2 if I sign up to an 18 month contract - I would get 12 months at £11 and the remaining 6 at the full £14.95. If I left early I would obviously have to pay.
For Broadband (also with BT) they have offered me £4 reduction per month for 12 months if I sign up to a 12 month contract - which would make it £13.99 per month(no other catches).
I thought these seemed like quite good deals but would really appreciate others advice as I don't have any experience of shopping around for my phones, other than reading Martin's articles.
I know it is not really feasible to go elsewhere for line rental and I can still get my free evening and weekend calls with Option 2 and use one of the other prefix companies for any day time calls etc.
Thanks in advance:D

Change your inet provider or cancel it alltogether.
Look at how much you really use the net and the fact your in debt currently and each time it keeps going up.
There are payg adsl options now that are like 4 quid a month so shop around and ditch BT you are never going to get rid of the debt other wise.
It was the best thing i did when i got rid of bt adsl service, my bills have gone from £500 a quater ( when i was using all their services and calling canada) to £150 ( stoped making calls to canada) to around £40 a quater now thanks to dumping the adsl service

If you used BT to call Canada, that would have been very expensive.
OTOH, the MSE International Callchecker shows how you could make them for ½p/minute!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I am a utility warehouse distributor so cannot be classed as unbiased, but our new broadcall would give the person who made this post 8mb broadband, inclusive line rental and free week-end calls.
If any 2 other services were taken eg gas/elec/mobile/freephone - all local and national calls would then be free.
No prefixes to dial or numbers to remember.
