Stay with BT for the line rental but make sure you are on BT Together Option 1 and pay by Direct Debit - that'll mean your line rental will be £11 per month (£10.75 from January if you opt for online only billing).

Now click on the 'HERE' link in my signature below and start saving on your calls!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. In which case, the £15 figure baffles me slightly.

Do you have any of BT's 'Calling Features'?

My BT bill appeared online today.

It takes a bit of deciphering but, for line rental, a quarterly bill should show a figure very similar to £28.07 for 'BT Together Option' (which means line rental if you're on BT Together Option 1).

Add 17.5% to that (although they do it for the whole bill so it'll appear differently) adds £4.91 - a total of £32.98 (£11 per month for the sake of argument).

It is possible to find (slightly) cheaper line rental but, if you change, it's likely you'll regret doing so because access to CPS (Carrier PreSelect) providers will cease to be available and some other options may cease to be available (e.g. it is known that TalkTalk, even before they put the cost of their line rental up so it was no longer cheaper than BT, had barred some subscribers from using indirect [4 or 5 digit prefix] access codes like 18185, 1899 and 18866.

Its not considered a good idea to move your line rental away from. BT,because you cant use cheap call suppliers like 18185,you cant cps your calls, and you dont pay for caller display on BT other suppliers charge. So you end up paying more.
Then theirs the potential problem of dealing with faults.
