madasafish works ok for me. As already discussed depends on what extras you 'must' have and your call needs!
  • I have done all the routing etc tried primus and loads of others i have gone back to BT where the service I find is excellent and I have to say is working out just as cheap but much easier to manage for me.

Might be easier, but unless you don't call anyone, either landlines any time of the day and/or mobiles any time of the day it's simply not possible for BT to be just as cheap.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    hi all,
iam with BT at the moment.
i end up paying more in service charges, VAT, linrental etc than i do on calls.
charges usually come to around £15 and my calls usually £8
is their anyone better to go with for this dilema?
i cant get Telewest coz cable isnt available in my area.

I am in a similar position my last 3 bills show ACTUAL call charges of less than £20 over a period of about 9 months. I too don't live in an area which has cable. I'm actually having to consider completely disconnecting my phone service and relying on my mobile to make calls and giving up internet access. I just can't afford BT's aditional / service charges over the last 6 months my bill has come to over £500. At the moment I can't make any outgoing calls and I'm paying off the debt at £20 per month. They did offer to reduce my internet bill AFTER I have paid off the debt. But since it will take about 6 more months to do that I'm stuck with paying the higher internet charge (which I can't afford) CATCH 22. They would not agree to me changing ISP until then

I get really confused trying to compare diff companies offers and to be honest they all seem to have their pros & cons.

I think that BT make up for losing customers to cable services and offset the lost revenue by having high 'service charges' for customers who have no option but to use them. I could be wrong, I'm not techy minded. But BT feels VERY EXPENSIVE and their customer service staff are not very helpful in my exp'

Does anyone know if their are any changes to the regulations in the pipeline to encourage BT to bring the prices down for their 'service charges'?

What service charges are you on about? Bushbaby Can you give us a breakdown.

Bt,s normal line rental charge paid by d/d is £11 a month, and you can get free caller display with it.Other suppliers may charge slightly less line rental, but charge you for caller display so you end up paying more then you would with BT.Also BT allow you to place your calls through cheaper suppliers eg https://www.18185.co.uk other suppliers can and do bar access.

I think you need to take a long hard look at your BT bills to see why £11/month for a landline and £14.99/month for broadband (£155.94 in 'charges' inclusive of VAT over 6 months) becomes 'over £500' in your case.

BTW, if you are paying off a debt of £500 at £20/month, that'll take more than 2 years to clear.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

YOU ARE A STAR:T :T :T I've not heard of that before but I am disabled so will check it out

my outstanding bill is made up thus:

    THIS QUARTER:
Service charge £91.14 (BT Together Option1 £30.63 BT B/Band Option 2 £61.25) this is where I wanted to cut my cost by downgarading to Option 1 or changing provider

One off charges (Late payments charge £20.00)

    Calls £18.02

    VAT £21.53

Then there is approx £200.00 still to be paid from the last 2 quarterly bills which I wasn't able to pay in full so have been carried forward to this bill. my bill avarages around £150 per quarter with between £8 - 15 on calls. I try to avoid using BT for calls. But I signed up with Primus for eve/w-end calls but can't use it as BT have blocked all outgoing calls

My B /Band contract runs out this month so I guess they are trying to make it hard to change ISP so they can keep charging me for it. they said I can't cancel it until the debt is paid in full. I'm really stressed about it cos I do all my shopping online and use e-mail where I can to cut down on call charges.
  • Nope, not eligible for Light Users Scheme as line has been restricted by BT to incoming calls only. Arrrrghhhhh!!!! they've got me by the short & curlies until I pay off the debt...

New to this board so apologies if this has already been discussed. In true MSE fashion, I phoned BT today to ask what they could do to bring down my costs as I have been such a lovely customer for them to have !;)

I am currently on BT Together Option 2 and although my intentions are good, I tend to get a bit complacent when it comes to shopping around - I like an easy life.:o

They have offered the following options and I just wondered what you all thought of these :

For landline calls, BT have offered me £11 per month for Option 2 if I sign up to an 18 month contract - I would get 12 months at £11 and the remaining 6 at the full £14.95. If I left early I would obviously have to pay.

For Broadband (also with BT) they have offered me £4 reduction per month for 12 months if I sign up to a 12 month contract - which would make it £13.99 per month(no other catches).

I thought these seemed like quite good deals but would really appreciate others advice as I don't have any experience of shopping around for my phones, other than reading Martin's articles.

I know it is not really feasible to go elsewhere for line rental and I can still get my free evening and weekend calls with Option 2 and use one of the other prefix companies for any day time calls etc.

    Thanks in advance:D
