Tips for drowned phone?

I dropped my phone into a bowl of clean water. Fished it out instantly and took it to bits to dry off. However, some hours later it's still not working when I put it back together. No sign of water or drips when I gently shake it. Any suggestions, or am I doomed?

I have taken off the front and back, taken out the battery and sim card, and removed the number pad from the front and just left it in bits so that everything can dry out thoroughly.

It's a Nokia 3510i which I only got just over a week ago following a tip in Martin's newsletter. So I am VERY sad about this!

  • There may be no drips or visible water but there will be moisture in there somewhere. You need to leave it in an airing cupboard or similar warm place for at least 24 hours, the longer the better. Don't switch it on until you've tried that.
  • You could try taking it to Holby City or ER, 360 should do it!
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.
  • Is it possibly under an insurance scheme? Some of the suppliers are offering free insurance for the first 3 months.

I was thinking you could inform supplier that it has inexplicably stopped working, but that wouldn't be true of course :(

Bit of TLC with a hair-dryer fixed mine after a similar mishap...

Very True, when my partner bought his last mobile, the salesman actually threw in "what if you are using it in the bathroom and accidentally drop it into the toilet?" as a reason why he should get the insurance.

Mine went through a 60 degree washing machine cycle in the pocket of my jeans. I dried it out on the boiler and the sim card survived. Interestingly I could still text, but couldn't make or receive calls any more. Still, not bad for such abuse!! :o

Ehem...I can testify that this can happen, surprising though it may sound! Fortunately, mine fell into a freshly flushed bowl! A few days in the airing cupboard and a good wipe with disinfectant, and it is working fine.

Don't think that would help; apparently they have indicators that they've been in water. From another forum
Most stores won't exchange a phone with liquid damage unless it is covered by insurance. Most phones nowadays have a pink and white sticker under the battery that turns red if it has been dropped in liquid to let the store or the manufacturer of the cause of the problem. Warranty exchanges are for manufacturer defects and not from user error or abuse
