Yes, short timed bits, or 3 rooms 5 mins each, you'd be surprised how much you can do, or sometimes i do 5 things in a room, pick up 5 things, or dust the window ledge, or put the paper to recycle, or iron 5 things. I find that I then have enough umph to continue for another couple of minutes, or 1 or 2 small jobs. Don't try to climb a mountain, do things you can manage, succeed in

I got 2 baskets recently from Home bargains £3.99 each, 1 is lined with pink material (for my dd) the other blue (for ds). I throw the kids things into their relevant basket and then tell them they have to put the stuff away in their rooms.

Set a timer for 15 minutes and see how much you can get done in that time? I do that sometimes when it feels overwhelming. Then have a wee break for tea or something (or come on here - but set your timer so you don't end up for hours - guilty! :o), then do it again for 15 minutes. It doesn't seem quite as daunting if you're doing it in short bursts - and it's surprising how much you can get done in 15 minutes.

Come back here with little updates. :)
that is exactly what I was going to say:rotfl:

get the kids to help as well, make it fun for them...who can do such and such fastest? A wee treat at the end goes a looooong way;)

PS. you should join in the FL thread as well....looks daunting, but even if you only manage level 1 each day, its a start

PLUS we get stars for being utterly fab too :D

Baby steps is the best way. Don't look at it as a whole just as small chunks. For example in the living room just put the toys away first then move to another area and so on. It has been described on Flylady thread as dot to dotting which i think is a perfect way of describing it! So all 'the dots' are joined leaving a tidier place! I tend to work my way around the room never going over an area twice. As others have said...get the kids to help! If they can make the mess they can tidy up! Have a look on the Flylady thread. Its brilliant and makes you realise you're not alone. xxx

P.S Also re your depression. I know what you mean when you just can't get the motivation to do things like tidying/cleaning etc but I found once i'd taken control of my home alot of other things fell into place. Drug (anti-depressants lol) free for 3 months and apart from the odd day i'm good. Swear a lot of my problem had been the state of the house and whilst its by no means perfect its getting there. Lots of love. xx

I read about time management and keeping your papers under control and one bit of advice was not to touch any bit of paper more than once when sorting them out. When you get hold of it, either box it, file it or shred it straight away, instead of putting it into a pile to deal with later on. I try to do the same when tidying up.

I've suffered with depression to a greater or lesser extent for a few years now and I use many of the very good ideas on this thread.

This miserable weather really gets me down, I think this is a medically recognised issue with depression so I try not to worry too much about the here and now because I know I'll feel more motivated once the weather improves so i can do some gardening to relax.

Vit B complex for nerves, ie the brain. If you eat meat and eggs, you are getting B12, so Brewer's Yeast is a natural form.
    Zinc.
Iron, as in Spa-tone in orange juice, (stains the teeth otherwise.)
Vit D3, 5000 iu per day. takes three months to show true results, so start now. Not known as the sunshine vitamin for nothing!

I started well by washing up and changing the washing round but then was interrupted by my mum turning up (earlier than usual) to collect my son to stay overnight coz it's half term and it's his turn.
He and his sis were playing upstairs taking no notice, OH was glued to computer taking no notice, my mum was talking 19 to dozen as always (love her to bits but wish she came with a remote control sometimes :D) while I was trying to sort out clothes and toys for him to take and slowing getting more and more anxious.
After my mum and son left I retired to bed for the afternoon to recover :o but there's always tomorrow :D
At least my son is not around to re-spread toys around that I've just picked up when I've turned my back for 2 mins! ;)
You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an
"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs :p :rotfl:
