  • Have run that but not executed - I count seven items to be unchecked in your list (please correct me) but the start up tab only shows five;
    ati
    adobe sl exe
    adobe ARM
    avast
    netmeter

    have I misunderstood?

    11. disable ctfmon - control panel, regional and language options, languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok

    12.
start, run, services.msc, disable these services. (make a note of any services you disable, if you have any problems related to these services subsequently, simply re-enable them)

    SSDP Discovery Service
    Remote Registry
    WebClient
    Distributed Link Tracking Client

anything you uncheck can be run manually if required, or re-enabled, it isn't deleting anything, just stopping them running at startup and gobbling up memory

  • Some improvement - peak commit after boot @177k

I confess to being lost in no.12 - only took out error reporting which is a pain when I'm jammed up anyway.

Still much much better than 24hrs ago,

I can't thank you enough for your help. x

    click start, run

    type services.msc in the box

a screen comes up, click the status column header to group the started services at the top

    find these

    SSDP Discovery Service
    Remote Registry
    WebClient
    Distributed Link Tracking Client

    right click, properties, disable

    reboot

  • Youd be surprised how tweaking the registry can speed things up there are sites out there that explain how a little thought and commonsense is needed i have tweaked the heckers out of xp vista and win 7 and they run like there on steroids
