A question of RAM

  • Hi again,

my apologies, it is still there, I was looking in the wrong folder, although for some reason the uninstall is isolated in a separate folder (c/windows)

I now have the icon up and am stable yellow at the mo, been green a little and red a bit more as I navigate.

Went onto crucial this morning and did the scan. they can do me 256 @10.99 518 @£20 or 1gb @£35

Am just weighing things up in that area.

I would say I'm a good bit slower now than when I was !!!! a hoop at 1am this morning. (now in the red)

I haven't downloaded hijackthis before, so I'll do as you suggest and update when my head is round it.

    cheers and thanks

    yes

going into task manager processes (tick show processes for all users), will tell you what is using your ram up, if it's IE, simply closing and reopening should speed it up again

    11. disable ctfmon - control panel, regional and language options, languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok

    12.
start, run, services.msc, disable these services. (make a note of any services you disable, if you have any problems related to these services subsequently, simply re-enable them)

    SSDP Discovery Service
    Remote Registry
    WebClient
    Distributed Link Tracking Client

    start, run, msconfig

go to the startup tab, and untick these (if you see them)

It's using memory, presumably for extra multimedia keys functionality

    O23 - Service: Netropa NHK Server (nhksrv) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Netropa\Multimedia Keyboard\nhksrv.exe

after you have followed the previous post, reboot, and check commit charge before IE.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
Thanks for your good explanation of how it works, I can grasp the concept better now.

The £60 was for 1gb, inc a tenner for fitting.
My old girl is an Acer travelmate 2201wlmi

go to the crucial.com site and use their scanner it will tell you how much more RAM your PC can use, it will also tell you the maximum amount of RAM your PC can handle and give you a price, just because there is a spare socket to place another stick of RAM doesn't mean the PC can use it. My first PC only had 256Mb of RAM but when I checked it couldn't take any more even though there was another spare socket for more RAM, all I could have done was replace the 1 stick of 256Mb RAM with 2 128Mb sticks of RAM.
    • Maximum Memory: 2048MB
    • Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)
    • Standard Memory: 512MB removable
    • USB Support: 2.x Compliant
Q: Will my system recognize the maximum upgrade?
    A: Possibly
The amount of memory your Windows computer will recognize depends on two factors:
the maximum capacity your computer hardware can handle and the version of Windows your computer uses.
The most memory the 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) is only 3GB or 3.5GB, if your computure hardware can handle it. The 64-bit version of Windows can address even more memory. Find out more at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.
if the option below is nearer to your machines spec then 1Gb will not be fully recognised, I would recommend downloading the crucial scanner to find out.
