  • A Remoska cooker will cook anything you can cook in the oven, but it does not slow cook. It only has one heat setting and cooks at a heat similar to gas mark 5.

There is a thread on Remoskas. I'm not a linky person but if you type Remoska thread into Forum Search it will bring it up.

Lakeland are the sole distributors of Remoskas in this country. If you look on their website there is a video demo.

Am hoping I can walk it in 10 to 15 mins each way;) Am starting to panick at just how high the petrol price is going to go:eek:

Pearl barley risotto is called "orzotto", there's a recipe for it in The Pauper's Cookbook. I really like it, far nicer than risotto. Spelt is even nicer but not as cheap! When using pearl barley I do it the Sophie Grigson way and soak the barley first as I think it gets rid of that weird plasticy feel barley can have.

I use Ocado occasionally and they're very good. I always wait until they send me a 20% off voucher then stock up, quite a few people get a delivery around here too so I piggyback my delivery onto someone else's and that saves on delivery cost, I usually end up spending £1.99 on delivery. Obviously it depends on what you buy but I but lots of dried food, flour and stuff like that when I get a delivery and usually fill my pantry for £80. The delivery guys are really great and the website tells you before you put your order in what won't be available on your chosen delivery day and fresh food has a "minimum" and "usual" use by date so no more getting things with a short date!

Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading:A

  • Forgot to mention before that the MSE fresh turmeric I used last night has turned my fingers a lovely shade of yellow. They were a bit yellow last night but the colour has developed beautifully overnight. I look like a 40 a day for 40 years girl:eek:
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Trazy - have a search for the "what I have in my slow cooker today" thread, it has lots of ideas to inspire. I use mine mostly for "wet" meals, stew, bolognese, curry, sausage casserole, soup, etc. But you can use it to cook a chicken or lasagne or rice pud, it's also handy for making lentil pate!

Morning everyone! Half term and efforts to have fun for minimal amounts of money are in full swing here! dd1 and me are off the cinema to watch the children's film this morn, £1 for dd and free for me! dd2 and ds are spending the day with friends, hanging out and doing whatever teenagers do - poss best if I don't think about it too much! dd3 has been at a friends for a sleepover, and we shall be swooping in and collecting her on our way past - though I shall prob stop for a cuppa and a gossip and to collect some eggs from my friends 101 chickens!

Thankfully, whilst we get the odd whinge, my bunch are generally pretty happy and enjoy just meeting friends, they are fairly good at dreaming up their own entertainment, just as well as the more I see the prices of places that are meant to be fun, the more my eyebrows shoot up!

Hope everyone has a lovely day, congrats to those who have found jobs, and fingers crossed for the home hunters xx

  • Mrs VP I did :rotfl: when I read about your fingers! I did think last night when I read about your turmeric that I hoped you'd worn rubber gloves! Lemon juice should get it off.

Hi Trazy, that's not a long post, most of us have a LOT more to say for ourselves :D

I'm just off out so can't help much with ideas but stews, with added rice/potatoes etc are lovely in the slow cooker.

:) Morning all! I've been catching up with the threads for the past hour, blimey, is MSE a full time job or what?! I'm typing whilst eating a bowl or porridge and supervising a pan of kidney beans boiling in the kitchen so I may have to leave in a hurry.....

Built-in Obsolescense... pants, can't spell today. Bitsy Beans, my Mum and Dad have been in a working relationship with a father-and-son team of washing machine mechanics for about 25 years now, and we've learned some interesting stuff as a result. F'instance, interior components which used to be stainless steel are now plastic in the newer machines. To keep the selling price low, everything is being skimped where is doesn't show. Mum has a B*sch which is probably 10+ years old and this company have asked to have it if she ever decides to get rid, they obviously can either break it for spares or have spares to get it up and running again. They reckon M*ele make the best washers, which tallies with the Which? reports.........

Does anyone know how long you cook kidney beans for btw? I soaked them overnight and they're on the stove now. And have ruddy well boiled over, I might add.;)

:) I lucked out at Mr T on my way home from work yesterday and got 3 x 400g sliced wholemeal loaves at 15p each, so that's the bread sorted for a while. Will be stocking up on porridge oats as they're included on the 3 for 2 cereals deal, which makes them 50p a kilo which is still more than the 44p a kilo they were a few months ago. This food price inflation is a worry. I'm hearing the darndest of people talking groceries, even young blokes in their early twenties.

:) I shall be old-styling tonight; a pound of mince and 2 cans from the tomato hoard, plus whatever veggies are in the whoopsie box at the greengrocer's and am making a big pot of chili con carne, then need to superglue my work shoes and my land telephone back together. The Nokia is behaving perfectly after it's dunting (copyright Mardatha) which I chose to interpret as a sharp rap on the edge of the table.

:) Blimey, you need good organisational skills to be OS don't you?!
