There has been a lot of moaning about OH's on this board the last day or two, is there a full moon this weekend? :rotfl:It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

LOL perhaps you're right
OH's pork wasn't too bad, but it was much too much considering we'd eaten at lunchtime so loads of it didn't get eaten (I've put it in the fridge for tomorrow!) and he'd managed to ruin a huge pan of rice as well by putting too much in the pan and not enough water!
I've no idea what came into him, he's a really good cook and usually very sensible, just a bit of a muppet tonight with my coveted pork belly!Piglet

Well I'll praise mine to rectify the balance. He's taken such wonderful care of me last night and today. Today was insanely busy with people here, and DH was a bit bemused about all the people (neighbours with sheep who want t bring their sheep here, an MSE chum:), someone to clip a horse...someone's husband, a client of mine an then my dad, another client and the client's slightly ''colourful'' boyfriend and other neighbours doing us a BIG favour).DH was charming and wonderful to them all, getting about to check all were fine and tonight I've exhausted myself and can't cook supper so he's made a tray of fruit and cheese and oatcakes and I don't have to move for a while.0 -
Just wandering if anyone can help me please. Does anyone know if tinned kidney beans freeze. I am the only one in our household who likes kidney beans. I opened a tin at lunchtime to have some with my salad and now have at least three quarters of a tin that possibly will not get used, so thought maybe I could freeze them for future use.0

OH still havnt had any work, most of our savings are gone over the last few weeks so no camping holiday this year. son no 1 wedding on the 30th of this months and daughters holy communion in may, managed to get a new holy communion dress new fron ebay for £30 so well pleased , i have my dress but no shoes or accessories will have to do these on the cheap.
Freezers still looking good for food, glad i stocked up now, with freezer food and flour etc
havnt felt like going out of the house of late, so decided to go to 2 bootsales tomorrow with oh and dd and take a picnic, baked some bread for sarnies and made some fairy cakes.

Yes, they freeze fine. In fact I often cook up a batch of dried beans and freeze them in small quantities because even a small tin is too much for us
HTHIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Wow I've been 'away' from the forum for what feels like ages and can't believe how much has happened. So sorry to hear of Annie56's sad loss and inspiring to hear her counting her blessings in spite of all that. Great to see how supportive everyone on this thread is of one another through good times and bad.
It's true that this unseasonally warm weather makes one feel a whole pile better and that appalling winter seems a world away. Life became a daily struggle of trying not to sink into depression, as I'm sure many others found so it's good to emerge into the light so to speak.
3 months after having a bone scan I was informed that I have osteopenia , the stage before osteoporosis so have to walk as much as possible- about 10,000 steps per day, increase my calcium intake and sit in the sun for about 20 minutes/day to increase my vitamin D levels.
I've taken this on board and with the support of my dietician & am doing OK apart from the 10,00 steps/day- Initially it was fine but I became so knackered I had to phone OH to pick me up in the car as I couldn't walk another step!!! Oh the difficulty of pacing oneself - I'm young in spirit but the mirror and my bones tell a different story! Does anyone else find pacing themselves somewhat of a challenge?
It's been too cold until these last couple of weeks to do much sowing for our 'grow your own' so we've really been catching up on sowing stuff in the greenhouse and the various beds this last week or so. As the drive up the side of our semi is too narrow for the car and is behind a large locked gate we have extended our container garden up there this year for the potatoes, Every available space is being utilised in an effort to beat last year's total of 250lb weight of fruit and veg. We are just hoping that early good weather doesn't mean another lousy summer. The tomatoes just wouldn't ripen last year and although I made a total of 45 jars of chutney for friends and family it would be nice to eat our own RIPE tomatoes!
Food security seems increasingly important and a good storecupboard was a blessing this last winter. I find myself replacing items such as tinned goods after one has been used in order to maintain stocks which seems a bit over the top but feels safe somehow. After our local population having fights over bread and milk during the snow I was amazed by how mutually supportive the Japanese were of each other during the recent earthquake - seemed incomprehensible somehow or are they just naturally more orientated towards 'the greater good' I wonder?
Has anyone used filo pastry as a pie topping instead of shortcrust? I did this tonight without using any butter just brushed it with milk.. OH really enjoyed it and it seems less fattening which is something we both have to watch. Only trouble seemed to be the need to use up the whole pack after defrosting so a big 'cook up' was necessary.
Still I'm out playing with my Quire tomorrow some distance from home so I guess OH will at least have minimal work to do in the way of finding himself a meal.
My friend and I will need to do justice to the wonderful tea we always get after such an event up in Yorkshire. They really are the most generous in hospitality and it'll be 10,000 step walks (3 1/2-4 miles/day) for the next week after that - watch this space......0 -
Yes, seconded re freezing tinned kidney (or any other kind of) beans.
Lots to catch up on again. The power supply to our router packed up during the week and we've had to wait until today to get a new one. I do have a payg dongle, but it's soooo slow that I've only checked essentials like bank balances for the last couple of days (OK, I had a sneaky look at MSE at work yesterday, sshhhh)
Gorgeous babies Lauren and Sammy_kaye - and fingers crossed that you get that house SK.
Things are going well on the gardening front. The first early potatoes are through, the sweetcorn is a couple of inches high and the dwarf beans, which I had all but given up on, are just beginning to poke through. Tomorrow we'll pick the first of the purple sprouting that I planted last year- really looking forward to that. We also had home grown rhubarb crumble in the week, which was yummy.
Am also feeling pleased because my gym membership runs out this week, so I went to renew it after my aqua class this morning, and managed to talk the membership guy into letting me have it at the same rate as last year, even though there was a big price increase in January. I've faithfully tracked my usage over the year, and have come out about £50 ahead by having annual membership, so am very pleased (and hopefully a bit fitter!)
Hope everyone's enjoyed the lovely sunshine today.0 -
Rosanna, nice to have you back.:) well you will be very fit soon, glad the sunshine is doing you good.
Been busy in the garden again, A dear friend gave me a wicker planter with a liner - something like a raised bed and its huge. Filled it with H/M compost and planted beetroot and little carrots, radishes - should be the perfect depth for them. Also did a tub of spring onions as they are so expensive. The salad leaves I planted in a tray for the kitchen window ledge on Wednesday are coming up already so should be edible as the last tray is finished - Yay me - I wanted succession of plants this year and phase one is working!
Going to have an early night as Dgs is snoring away upstairs and I am likely to be up with the birdsClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
