    Evening all..
:hello:to all the new ladies on here..its a lovely place to be..
Right this is a quickie as bit busy at the mo...

Potato and onion pie..can't remember who but someone did ask me to post it..

1and a half pounds of potatoes
    half pound of onions
    1oz dripping(lard)
    20z cheese
    salt and pepper
Steam and mash the potatoes.Peel and slice the onions very thinly, fry them in the dripping until nicely browned ,season well with salt and pepper.Put a layer of mash in a greased piedish, then a layer of onions, another thin layer of potatoe and the remainder of the onion.Grate the cheese finely and mix it with the remainder of the potato, pile it on the top, roughing it with a fork.Bake a golden brown in a hot oven.Serve with gravy.
    Gas mark 6
    enough for 4 persons(not) 3 at a push..
we had ours with cold chicken..bloody lovely..next time i'm popping some corned beef in between the layers..
That recipe is direct from Lydia Chatterton..and her book Modern Cookery..its old,not even an ISBN number on it..lots more good stuff in there too...

;) I'm gonna be getting a bigger rise (increment) than you nyah nyah it's 52p!!!! Hopefully the forumites will come thru with some good suggestions about how to spend this largesse.

:) SuperGran popped over yesterday when I was doing the ironing (took ages, all of 3 things and one of those was a hankie). I got the latest update on doings in the 'hood. The dealers are about again and SG managed to get one of their car's registrations and called her contacts in the local policing team (lesser mortals have to go thru the switchboard but she's got direct dials). Things are hotting up around here, which happens periodically, then there's raids and it goes quiet. For some bizarre reason, Provincial City had been fought over as "turf" by drug dealers out of Liverpool and London for years. We're nowhere near either place but maybe they've already carved up the intervening areas. It's quite funny how they send their couriers up here into the boonies by car or even on the train and seem to be surprised when the local plod nab them as they come in. We may be provincial but the internet and phonelines do reach up here as well.

:( I'm less than amused that DealerMan and the Bint are up to their old tricks (they have a young baby now) and that Bint2 + newborn baby (who co-incidentally shares a first name with Bint1) and her OH are using weed, too. The smell of skunk wafts gently from their homes. Great start in life for the respective infants, eh?

:DFlowertomum, thanks for posting that recipe, I have snatched it into custody already and will try it out soon.

:) Have loads of little jobs which need the sewing machine out but have felt lacking in motivation lately. Probably just overtired. Does anyone else who sews or crafts go thru phases when they can't be bovvered even tho they normally love this kind of stuff?

:D My tooth is perfectly fine, when the painkiller jabs wore off yesterday circa 5 pm there was absolutely no problem and I have been seen in front of the bathroom mirror admiring my giant white composite filling. Looks just like a real tooth......:rotfl:Anyway, it cost me £328 + the £15 for the emergency filling, so friends and acquaintances should consider themselves lucky if they're not made to admire it as well. Gordon Bennet, when I think what I could have spent that money on instead, like a pair of new shoes or so (my newest were bought in 2006 :()

:) Ahh well. it's Friday and I'm about to be released onto the allotment to play in the dirt. Plus have got the little freezer nearly empty so will do a defrost and a restock, probably fill it with chicken drumsticks so I can live on both of ChocClare's fantastic chicken recipes.

Hope everyone has a good day and ((hugs)) to anyone who's feeling a wee bit down in the dumps.

G'morning GreyQueen - and one and all others who are around now:j

Yep - I know - I dont feel like leaping up and down EITHER - but I thought I might convince you that you do:rotfl:.

Oh for the joys of "normal" neighbourhoods to live in eh GreyQueen - thinks enviously about "normal" neighbourhoods myself, as my own is only fairly "standard" (ie there are frequently "bits and pieces" going wrong that have to be put right....:() - but 'tis more peaceful hereabouts than you have lass:eek:. Don't know about you - but there ARE times when I feel like shaking my fist skywards and stamping feet and saying "Hoy...you Upstairs (aka The Almighty)...a HOME is x/y/z...have you GOT that? Are you listening? So - get ON with producing the goods darn you...I AM buying the Lottery Tickets you know...so the way is open to do so...Just do your bit and give me a big enough win and I promise my first stop will be a round of the estate agents (updated to "this is 2011 - so make that a scan of Rightmove then.."). Whoops - sorrees - spate of irreverence over ......LOL

No wonder you're not feeling motivated. I thought I have strong willpower to "pick myself up, put myself together and carry on" GreyQueen - but your "backbone" must be made of positive steel the way you have to do so:).

Anyways - date for diaries - Tuesday next week will see the biggest problem removed - ie Idiot Boy. So Monday evening next week is the big Positive Thinking Fest - beam good wishes in direction of GreyQueen shoebox in Provincial City then for us all...:)

All being well on that - how soon after Tuesday will he have to have "picked up bag and baggage" and gone then?

Tired, tired Red...and am off cat sitting this weekend for the OBB as the OH is going to see his elderly parents. That means FK will sit behind the door and growl at the Boy - who will hear the heard of elephants and then attack!!!! Sleep is soooo not going to happen.

However, I will be planting a few bits in the allotment so that will be good and now I am a gym member again at the local leisure centre will be going down there too.

Cannot wait to go camping at the end of the month!

Kidcat...the weather in the south is looking good. A barmy 21 degrees yesterday so on the Isle you should be toast! :D Good luck with the rest of the move. x

Gailey, are you going to hang on to that kid forever woman??!!!:D Get it out for crying out loud. :rotfl:

Fingers, toes and everything else crossed for you then GreyQueen. Idiot Boy would be a fool to himself to have such a "blot on his copybook" - but its entirely possible he isnt thinking straight enough to realise that. Some peoples definition of forward planning/thinking ahead only extends as far as next week - and it sounds as he is one of them.

Kidcat - firstly congratulations (belated, but i've not been logged on of late) on all the house developments. Looking forward to raising a 'virtual' glass of something 'bubbly' when it's all settled for you. Also thankyou for the 'heads up' regarding the Basmati rice in Mr T's. Got some this morning. You're right for 66p a kilo, you can't not buy some! The bags we got were BB Jan 2012, but carefully stored, they will be good to supply us with rice for the foreseeable future! Plus i'm just way to old to worry about a notional date that some computer has randomly decided upon based on the date of packaging! - especially for dried goods.

For anyone else wishing to grab the rice offer, if your local Mr T's is anything like ours, do not look in the rice section for this offer....... the bags are orange (rather than the normal fetching purple) with indian 'style' writing on them and in our local store they were located (on the bottom shelf) with a load of other food/alcohol offers as you entered in the store opposite the newspapers/magazines zone.

Edit: Just realised that the price of the rice has not been made clear - the 5kg bags are normally £5 - so the offer is buy 2 and get one free - making it 66p a kilo.

Right, back to catch up on the thread a bit.

Yes and I do not try and force myself to do anything because I will make mistakes. A rest is good and often gets the creative juices flowing too.

On another note, does anyone know how I can stop homeserve from ringing? They are calling almost every day and yesterday it was twice. We have a drain insurance with them but they are always trying to sell us more.
