Annie56 and Katholicos - thinking of you both
Shegar - I really hope that you are able to get the help you so obviously need and that your shoulders are feeling a bit better soon. Know how you are feeling - following a car accident we were involved in 6 months ago I have been struggling with my neck and shoulders, awful headaches as well! Only get by with daily painkillers! But as you say, what choice do we have but to carry on ....

Could have done with an extra hour today, not losing one!
Been so busy - planted lettuces, runner beans and french beans
Baked 2 Victoria sandwiches, a chocolate cake and a wholemeal loaf of bread
Dinner was boiled bacon, cauliflower cheese, roasties and carrots
Load of washing which I managed to get dried outside as well

All in all a good day, but now totally exhausted. Going to have a well deserved hot bath and then off to bed..

and I've just bought chutney!!! I am suitably embarrassed and would greatly appreciate any recipes for the above.

There is a thread here with recipes or THIS is the one I use. :)
Don't feel too guilty though as we got the M&S one in a hamper this year and it was lovely.

Nice to see you posting Katholicos. Hope you are doing ok.

Still thinking of you and yours Welsh Camper. xxx

Nothing too tough to report today. :D Did loads of gardening with the girls who are now propagating lots of seedlings on their bedroom windowsills.
I still haven't bought any seeds this year as I'm using a combination of freebies, ones from MIL and leftovers from last year. I am hoping to get away with not buying ANY bedding plants this year as we are growing them all from seed which is a mammoth task as I have 7 window boxes and at least a dozen hanging baskets. :o

All my perrenial herbs are looking good and the sowings of basil, tarragon, dill, coriander and parsley are thriving.

Just boiling up some veg for soup for the girls to take to school tommorrow as hey've "gone off" sandwiches.
  • Katholicos its lovely to see you posting. How's the gardening going this year?
delamo1 has your wife been to her GP, maybe he could help?
Shegar you can also self refer to your local District Nursing Service who might also be able to point you in the direction of what help is avaliable for you and your husband.

Well I did not have to work a long day today because there was a mistake on the off duty and I was not needed on the late shift. I came home and went straight into the garden and planted some more seeds and the last of the potatoes :j. Had a great afternoon in the garden but won't be so happy when I get paid next month :(.

Can feel the effects of loosing the hour last night and getting up early for work this morning. Will be off to bed soon.

Glad the sun is being shared aroud now but it is a bir worrying adout madathas knicker elastic ;).
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Hugs to everyone who has sadness or sickness to contend with at the moment.

It's been my favourite kind of day today - sunny enough to dry the washing outside and do some pottering in the garden. I want to up the ante in the garden this year - we've always grown some veg but now I want to produce enough to really make a dent in our food budget. For example, last year I grew four sweetcorn plants and about half a dozen dwarf beans. This year it will be 15 and 24 respectively.
The extra hour of daylight is such a bonus too. I love being able to come home from work and still be able to get things done outside. Today has been a bit of a struggle though - losing the hour means everything has been a bit of a rush to get it all done.
Not looking forward to work tomorrow. The company has been taken over recently, and the new management team are starting to make some quite drastic changes. I'm only on a short contract so won't be greatly affected, but it makes for a very unsettling atmosphere, and many of my colleagues are fearful for their jobs. A quiet, uneventful week would be nice, but somehow it doesn't seem very likely.

Lovely here today too, and we had a new member of the family - William II, who is a really beautiful bantam cockerel who our farmer's wife finally managed to catch for us. So our "little" girls have now got their own boyfriend :j

Nice goat lady down the road also lent us an incubator, so DH put a dozen eggs in it this morning and we will see if we have more luck with it than we did with our home-made version.

Hopefully we'll be able to increase our little flock, as I notice the last of my original ex-batts is j-u-s-t starting to slow down a bit, which generally means that she won't be long for this world, if our experience with the others is anything to go by. All of them were having great fun rootling round the garden today though and digging through the kitchen garden - for getting on to the last time, as, once I've cleared the weeds, they won't be allowed in there, as they decimated the place last year! Seedlings in the conservatory are coming on, but I keep forgetting it's only March, as it's been so sunny, and I'm impatient to get them out. Which doubtless means we'll have a HUGE frost which will kill everything off :rotfl:

Annie - so sorry to hear your sad news; the good news about your home won't make it any better but at least it will give you something positive to think about and you can plan your future with the people you love.

I had one of those 'Doh!' moments today - we'd just left M&S with a jar of their delicious caremelised red onion chutney when it hit me - here am I , a so-called OS devotee, and I've just bought chutney!!! I am suitably embarrassed and would greatly appreciate any recipes for the above.

This is an easy red onion relish recipe
    3 finely chopped red onions
    1 finely chopped red pepper
    6 tbsp soft brown sugar
    6 tbsp white wine vinegar
    half teaspoon salt
1 chopped or grated garlic clove

Mix all the ingredients together in a pan. Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved. Bring the mixture to the boil, turn down the heat and simmer for approx 34-40 mins (until thickened). Give mixture a good stir and put into a jar immediately. Once cold it is ready to eat. Will make 1 x 450g jar.

Haven't been on here for weeks. Sad to read of bereavements and illnesses and impending job losses and other difficulties that I know some of you are dealing with. Can't say anything other than my thoughts are with you all.
It is also pleasing to read of seeds being planted. Always a good sign.

    Echoed...

...and, never mind seeds, I'm still going half and half on a bit from seeds and a bit from plug plants....so I've got some of this years plug plants out there already and it includes a few tomato plants and a few chard plants ( guess that means I have to be on the lookout for any late frosts and stick a bit of horticultural fleece over the top of them quick if they say theres going to be any round here...?)
