Let's see... 2% off corporation tax translates to me as "Oh goody, more profit for shareholders".
Fuel... barely puts a brake on screaming rises when fuel affects the price of pretty much everything. And of course the fuel companies won't pass on their increased taxes to us. Yeah right.
"Our national debt will rise to 71% of GDP and ease to 69%" WHAT??
OK, they don't have to pay it off in a year flat - but sheesh! GQ could IB be destroying the flat bit by bit. It happens around here. People have been known to remove copper pipes and boilers to sell when they move out.0

In the case of massive corporations then yes, I'd be inclined to agree but for the small business man/woman it will make a huge difference and could be a saving that they can pass on to their employees by increasing wages. People work very hard to run their own businesses and the country as a whole benefits from the encouragement of the small business sector so I am pleased with this one. The banks are exempt from the decrease in Corporation Tax so that pleases me too. We don't earn a huge amount from our business and like everyone else I will be glad of any opportunity to see more money in my pocket and less in that of the tax man.;)
On the rural/urban debate we have it both ways here. I live in a small town that provides everything we need in the way of shops, if not all that we want. But we are 50 miles away from the next small town and 100 miles from the nearest city so still have to travel far for major services (hospitals etc) and have vast expanses of sea and countryside in between. IF OH wasn't self employed we could not live here as there are no jobs in his field so in that sense the choice would be taken away from us.
Good news on the cooker Jumblejack.
Sorry you've had another rough night GQ.0 -

What is scary is that on DFW, I generally reckon that a poster with a debt equal to 100% of income is in trouble but can retrieve the situation as long as they earn enough to have something to pay the creditors.
It is not unusual to find people with debts equal to 200-300% income - and not necessarily just because their income has dropped drastically. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thank you to whoever shunted the big yellow in the sky over here. I'm just about to use it:)Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

I think the penny cut in fuel would have been better 3-5p personally.
Also is vat on petrol 20percent ?maybe that could be lowered.
I think you've hit the nail on the head there. The rise in VAT netted the chancellor an extra - what, 3p? 4p? - on the prices of fuel a mere three months ago. For him to give us a penny back now... Well, lets see how that would work under any other circumstance. It was my birthday a few weeks back. If OH had stolen my christmas money then gave me a quarter of it back as a birthday present, he wouldn't be walking straight for a little while, that's for sure :rotfl: (And no, I'm not condoning domestic violence...)
Much laughter going on here at peoples' description of the sunshine. OH went over the raised beds after work last night and is going to do some seed-sowing for me this evening. He's a little angel :A he hasn't complained once at having to look after me.
Mind you, he's insisted on signing up to get a Sky HD box so he's getting his share. Because of the £100 M&S voucher that means it will only cost us an extra £2 per month, but only if the M&S vouchers get used for something we would have got there anyway. All we buy there is those dine-in-for-a-tenner deals when the whole chickens are in the offer, but we buy one of those about once a month anyway. So it kind of works. I don't really begrudge him the sky, he works hard and doesn't spend on much else.
I'm going to see if I can get some laundry out on the line without doing myself a mischief. I love line-dried clothes, the sight of a line full of whites moving slightly in the breeze is one of my simple pleasures. Aren't I a saddo?! :rotfl:0 -

Must admit I had the big companies in mind when I made that comment - and it seems a small concession if it's really aimed at helping smaller companies?
As for the banks - the recent uproar over Barclay's tax payments shows that they don't need any government help to reduce their payments.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
