Now I know one of you is around the Lyme Regis area...I have persuaded the OH to go camping at the end of April so if you are about then, give me a shout. I think I know who it is but at my age, memory is a luxury! :D

S & M - my second job gives me tips and they are what gives me the little luxuries. I cant see it going ahead as it really would be a tax on the working.

I have the one known as "mother" coming for the weekend!!!:eek::eek::eek: Seriously, I cant wait to see her as I havent been home since Christmas. She is also bringing my nan and grandad (who think they are still 21):rotfl: My little cottage will be packed and FK will love the attention. And mum will be bringing a nice "Red Cross" parcel too...spoilt girl :D

If Mr O had put a penny on the price of a litre of fuel then everyone would be moaning. I will take any little bit given. However, it will be taken away if they do get rid of NI and tax us at 32%. For those with more than one job you will be 12% worse off on your second income...because if you are currently under (I think) its £110 per week, you dont pay NI.

What worries me is that nothing is STILL being done about the massive deficit we have.

    True points...

..and you're dead right about the deficit - currently being added to at the rate of £6 million a day by the Libyan war (and thats before any ground troops go in - at which point the costs start shooting up...:mad::mad::mad:). Forgawdsakes:eek:

I hadnt realised about NI also being payable on second jobs as well if they combine income tax and N.I. - oh dear! I knew that I am concerned that pensioners may end up paying a higher rate of tax on their incomes - as they currently dont pay NI. A newspaper columnist yesterday pointed out that pensioners would need to pay a new combined income tax/NI rate that equates to the current income tax rate only - as otherwise my point I made previously would come into play (ie pensioners would be charged more tax than they currently are).

I've had second jobs before now - in my case they were on top of a main full-time job and I would not have welcomed being expected to pay higher tax on them (I was annoyed enough as it was that I sometimes only got a rate of pay that equated to what I got from the daytime job - though they were being done in antisocial hours, such as evenings and weekends).

However - what about those people who do a "patchwork quilt" of part-time jobs to make up one full-time job worth? What will happen about their income tax/NI? I do know a lot of cleaners are full-time job people - and have to make up that one "full-time job" from several part-time cleaning jobs. That is - I notice them getting up during the night (5am/6am) to go off to job-let no. 1 in one place, maybe going off in the middle of the day to job-let no. 2 and then turning up early evening at job-let no. 3 in order to make up that one "full-time" job that I have by walking into one place of a morning and just staying there till I've done the whole of my time for that day in the one place and then walking out of that one workplace at the end of the day. Thats it - job over for the day and no time spent hanging around between job-let 1 and job-let 2 and so on and having to get myself to and from work 2 or 3 times a day. Will people with a "patchwork quilt" of a "full-time job" get charged extra tax? I dont know what their current tax position is...

:) Yup, spring has sprung in Provincial City. I saw a guy wearing 3/4 length trousers with FLIP FLOPS yesterday. We're so sun-starved show us 13 degrees and sunshiney and we think it's summertime.

:D Great to see Frugal Queen's blog back, albeit temporarily. I tried to leave her a supportive comment but couldn't make it work. Feel such a nitwit but see from a couple of other posters that I'm not the only one with this problem. Wah, why is it so difficult!?

:) I haven't had time to digest the budget yet but think I might break My Rules and buy a quality newspaper today and pore over the details. I don't trust governments on general principles but will benefit from increased tax allowances as I earn under £10, 000 a year and it will mean that more of my income is untaxed. Seriously bad news about the implications for second-jobbers. Like Ceridwen, I know people who cobble together a livelihood from multiple joblets (one friend in severe hardship once simulatanously ran 13 joblets) and the logistics of that were horrendous, but she needed to survive. I have a few colleagues in the LA who top-up a low income with evening/ weekend bar work, cleaning or a Sunday shop job. I sometimes bump into them as I wander about my business. If the tax burden on second jobs becomes too ridiculous people will either jack them in as unviable or go "on the black" and then the tax man loses it all. Trouble is, the ruling castes of this country are so very remote from real life as it is lived by regular people.

:( Idiot Boy was being a PITA yesterday evening again. (I found that acronym in a book, stands for Pain in the A***. and I like it lots). He was dragging furniture around for the best part of 2 hours and he had something up there making a noise I can't fathom. I've lived in close quarters with people all my life and have used loads of tools inc in workshops but cannot for the life of me figure what it might have been. Perhaps if I describe it somebody up here will know?

The NOISE; imagine a very small room with a tiled floor over concrete (and GQ just below). What is sounds like is something very very heavy, but on wheels, but as if the axles are locked, being dragged to and fro upstairs. Each drag lasts a few seconds (2-3) and then there is another and another. Lightly garnished by intermittant hammering.

I'm baffled. He's a nutter. What the heck could that have been?

Anyway, whoopsied hot cross buns are due to star in breakfast just now and later for lunch. 4 for 25p, all is well. Tooth hurts and had to take asprin last night but at least the pain tells me it's still there.

Gailey glad you're OK and hope baby comes soon. You must be exhausted with so much to do.

Yep - re those "second jobbers" - I've just seen a query on the Jobs Board about having a second job. The poster was told that they wouldnt have to pay NI on their second job - so I replied saying "They might in effect...once 'income tax' and 'National Insurance' are combined as one tax".

I know Squeaky's signature comes to mind here - about never putting down to malice what can be attributed to incompetence. It could be incompetence that has caused the Government not to take account of the "second job - extra tax" effect. On the other hand - it could be that they are trying to put pressure on peeps not to have second jobs (due to a calculation about it being less worthwhile to do so than currently....).

So - what happens about those "over 1 million" full-time workers who have been made redundant or not been able to get a full-time job in the first place and have taken on a part-time job to keep them going whilst they keep looking for their full-time job? Peeps in that position also sometimes take on "second jobs" - in order to help "keep their (financial) boat afloat" whilst waiting for their full-time job to turn up.

I think theories about people needing to share around available work are all well and good if people are doing a well-paid type of job and/or have got their finances well in order (living in final home/mortgage paid off/savings in place/etc) - but there are a heck of a lot of people in badly-paid jobs and/or havent got their finances "in order" yet and people in that sort of position DO need to have one full-time job OR at least get a bit of "help" from not having to pay extra tax on any secondary jobs they have to take to make up a "full time job worth". I do get annoyed at the presumption that so many of us apparently have our finances "in order" in the first place - when, even at my age and despite a LOT of effort, my own finances arent "in order" yet. I'm clear of mortgage and debt - but there is still a long way to go before they are "in order" yet and I wonder if they ever will be....darn it!

    Morning guys.

still havent had time to study budget in detail:(
Did record bbc budegt coverage but that was 4hours andby time I hadbath, made dinner, ate dinner and quick tidy.
was late so decided lets watch paxman on newsnight but fell asleep:rotfl:.

I think the penny cut in fuel would have been better 3-5p personally.
Also is vat on petrol 20percent ?maybe that could be lowered.

Igues raising incometax threshold by 1000 will make some people better off.

I guess we have made a concious decision to live in an urban environement as hubby grew upin city, we wanted to be close to elderly inlaws as te suppor they needed more support over recent years. Also there was more job opportunities here and things to do here than in my homeland of wales.

We live outer suberb which feels like a village.
Theres so much todo for the kids fantastic parks, greta cyclepaths/walks. localchurch does halfterm activities for pound and local libaries do lots of free stuff for kids.

I do find the buses pricey but some supermarkets do free buses.
My mam whinges that we have so much more choice shopping wise which allows us to save as tesco/asda/mr m,sainsburys, aldis, lidls all within short driving distance so allows us toshoparoundand save.
Hospitals/health clinics and doctor all close by .

Citycentre has many cheaper shops too like huge poundland/family bargains and massive primark.
we have massive carboot sale near us just off m4.

My mam on other hand lives in small rural town with just waitrose and tesco metro.
she sometimes travels to asda but that means petrol.
hardly any shops/jobswithin the town so she says she feesl forced to drive elsewhere to do shopping but sometimes I guess by time petrols paid maybe the savings not worth it.

Looks like another lovley day here do love the sun cheers me up.

My thermal cooker has just arrived!!!!!

I was going to dash straight out to pick up my tomato plants and candle kit off a local freecycler (in exchange for my hens eggs!) followed by cutting the lawns and hedges. I have now decided to get a veggie curry on so that I can play with my new toy first!!!!

I have not fully digested the budget implications for us and our children and their little families.
Just think that it is more and more important for me to try to source seasonal, local food for all our meals.

GQ I have no idea what that machine might be - maybe he's turning his flat into a PITA bakery?
Cheers m'dears, Silver (ps please send some yellow sky stuff in this direction x x)

I can't even manage to get excited about the budget or the cost of war etc. it all seem so far removed from my problems that I can't really deal with any of it so I'm putting my head firmly in the sand and focusing on what I can deal with which is keeping grocery costs down, avoiding spending money and starting to grow our own.
