I have taken this as an opportunity to explain to him that we should give thanks for what we have. There are so many people in the world who are less fortunate than we are. :(

Isn't that the truth. A lot of adults could do with learning that.

HANG ON A SEC - Gailey's pregnant?!?!?!? :T :D :j Oh my word, I really have been away too long. :rotfl: Good luck hun! :grouphug: Oh, and congratulations!

    Another glorious sunny day, yay!

Gonna carry on gardening. More staining & walloping to be done at the side of the house. Also need (more like want) to paint the shed and stencil ivy around it!

Felt guilty just as had some correspondence from national trust. We used to have family membership every year as it is so close to my heart but I have written it off as an unnecessary luxury now. Also, a lot of properties are quite a drive away and I am reining in
on unnecessary mileage. I bet they have noticed a huge decline in membership renewals 8-(

Left over chilli today for lunch! Mmmm. It's always nicer on the second day!

Had a rummage last night and found cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and cardamom pods (containing seeds!) that can be sprouted!!! Weirdly as well, the split red lentils that I had started soaking ready for sprouting last night have had an amazingly surprising result...
... Half of them are actually showing signs of starting to sprout!!
The ones that are showing signs have that little tiny white thing attached at the very top. It was curled over before but is now filling out. The ones that aren't have a tiny indentation on the top side where it was accommodated as a complete seed. Is it a cotyledon thingy? (Are there any biology buffs who can correct me so that I can explain it accurately to my youngest?)

    Have a great day all!

Morning everyone. It is glorious here in London.

    Gailey, hope all is well.

Looking forward to planting some spuds and my garlic plants. I am so excited about the buds on my fruit trees. My rosemary and chives seedlings are coming all well. There is always something to do with gardening but I am loving it.

:) Aww, you noticed! :o Just feeling knackered and had breakfast away from the PC with my nose in a trashy novel. Went to the library yesterday after work for an infusion of Trash Literature as felt in need of a cheap pick-me-up and thought it would do me more good than ch*c*late.:rotfl:Idiot Boy spent nearly an hour dragging furniture around his flat between 7 and 8 pm last night. We have concrete floors covered with Marley tiles and he was shoving and dragging stuff over these. I was convinced he must be moving as these places are titchy and you could re-arrange the whole place in 5 minutes, furniture-wise. Alas and alack, it seems to have been a false hope and then Idiot Girlfriend came over and spent the next 4 hours shrieking and tittering IYKWIM. A pox on them both; went to bed with the industrial ear-defenders on (think factory and building site type).

:) I had every good intention of being outside Iceland this morning when it opened so that I could swoop on whoopsied meat but felt too lurgy and as today is one of my later starts, it wouldn't have really fitted around my workday. Shall go there tomorrow then onto the office (they have a fridge) straight from the store.

:( Whoopsies are getting harder to come by in my neck of the woods. Are other people finding it true in their regular haunts? There is always a scrum around them and things get lifted in seconds of being put out reduced. I've had some astonishing deals in the past but nothing to write home about for several weeks now. Signs of the times; the darndest people are complaining about grocery prices, even single 20-something males in my office have noticed.

:) Tooth is hanging on in there and giving me intermittant achey-type pains but it's had a rough few days and is entitled to sulk.

:) Thanks for the tips about the chili peppers; I'm about to boil a kettle for more tea and will boil enough to scald them whilst I'm at it. Can't waste that gas....

:( Have been moved to tears by reading Frugal Queen's temporarily- revived blog and all the lovely comments. Gawd, whoever did this to her is an absolute toe-rag or toe-rags and I hope they are proud of themseleves, whoever they are.

Catch you later ((hugs to all)). Anyone heard of Gailey? Always worry a bit when anyone has a baby due........

Talking of grocery prices .. it is about time something was done about the obvious profiteering going on by supermarkets at the expense of the consumer as I am sure they are putting prices up on the back of recession themed excuses. I am not against paying what food is worth but when things double overnight questions have to be asked don't they?.
I feel that as usual ,we are being taken for a ride.....be it fuel or food and as the 2 are linked cant help thinking that common sense would say have at least a temporary reduction in the tax to get the economy moving again -so that this country can actually afford to produce and transport its own food around -rather than the crazy situation that is shipping in spuds from Africa (or wherever!). I wish this little island could be more self sufficient and that also comes round to the issue of seasonal food too which was talked about before! Shortsightedness has such long term effects for everyone:mad:
Without some reprieve I don't see how things are going to improve..and delaying the 1p tax rise on petrol just isn't going to help anyone.

Of course everyone is correct in that we are still very fortunate compared with all the terrible things going on in the world today....and I too count my blessings:)

  • we got the car back yesterday and it ended up costing £351.70 as we had asked them to check something that wasn't part of the MOT but we knew needed sorting so that ended up getting added to
    the total :(

as the weather has been lovely for the two days we didn't have the car, i didn't miss it, enjoyed walking DD to school and back(well DD on her bike) DH has walked home to and from work so this morning even though we had the car back, we all ended up walking to where we needed to be, to be honest we do need to as petrol is so bl**dy expensive - of course scrapping the 1p fuel duty will help us all!!

have spent the last couple of days scouring our finances and the only thing we can cut out is the payment protection on DH's cc, so he rang them up yesterday to cancel it so next month it will mean we are finally starting to pay off some of the balance, we won't be having any takeaways next month :( sad because it's our wedding anniversary too which means we won't get to go out for a meal or even have a takeaway to celebrate it :( we just simply cannot afford it :(
next month will save a fair bit of cash as it's the kids holidays so we won't be forking out for school dinners or extra stuff for packed lunches, i have planned one outing for us which will cost a teeny bit of petrol to get there plus around £5 for the activity, the rest of the stuff we do will be free stuff :)
DH will be walking to and from work whenever it is nice weather(read that as not raining lol) and we will be walking to school and home whenever possible

DH is doing my head in lately, keeps complaining about the state of the house, saying it's messy and untidy and smells, everytime we walk past the private housing estate on the way to school, he says he wishes we could live there, can't you get a job so we can move onto this estate?

well it looks like i am going to have to get a job(oooh that makes me sound like a really lazy, workshy so and so) as we simply cannot afford for me not to :( especially if we want to get our debts cleared and move off this estate to the nicer one......

but if you are at work, will you have the time to do all the money savings things, like batch baking etc, as you do now???

working sometimes costs you money; you lose tax creds, its costs to get to work, you need more clothes for work, child care????

As one of the childless-by-choice brigade I'm possibly not the expert, but if the Tightwad Gazette has taught me anything it's that it's not necessarily financially rewarding for both parents to work. I guess the only way you'll know though is to sit down and do all of the sums. Tedious and boring, I know, but it's the only way you'll find out.

Please don't take this the wrong way (I can't think how to phrase it) but your hubby needs to figure out what his priority is. Like, if he really wants to move to a different estate then would he be willing to give up his car? Walking to work only in fair weather isn't that much of a commitment really. There is a tendency in this day and age to think that we deserve a certain lifestyle and are entitled to certain things. It simply isn't true. If you want something you can't afford, then you have to sacrifice other things in order to have it. The fact is, we'd all like a nice house.

On the other hand, 'messy' 'untidy' and 'smelly' are all things that can be sorted with little money but through time and effort. Even houses in nice areas get messy and smelly if they are not looked after? Not saying you don't take care of your house lol just wondering if there are things you can do that will make him happier with the house you are in at the moment?
