Larumbelle. So sorry to hear that someone has done that to you. Get well soon. x
Sorry to hear of your troubles SoftStuff. x
Hope you feel better soon Jediteacher. x
Hope you and OH get some quality time together soon Lostinrates.
I too am sorry to hear about Frugal Queen. It makes no sense that someone would do that to her when her blog is so popular. Hopefully she will repost soon and perhaps block comments. I hope someone can pass on our good wishes.
No great toughness to report today. OH has quoted for 2 more jobs which will be great if he gets them and I have spent the day frugalising meals for the freezer and potting on veg seedlings.
Saved some money on a car wash tonight by employing some child labour in the form of small daughter.Had to redo most of it myself but it was great fun.
Planning some more mending tonight. Have felted a couple ofcharity shop jumpers which I want to cut out and turn into corsages having finally tracked down some brooch pins. :j
Take care everyone.0 -
LIR - All I have out are crocus. You must have a hell of a lot warmer weather down there !! Sulking now !
You get better snow and shortbread though
Is been interesting a first spring here. The daffs in the neighbouring villages were out a full week before here in the fields. Things have happens in big jumps, not slowly unfurling.0 -
The Greens have long been banging on about the need to re-organise the way we live around travelling around a lot less than we do at the moment........I wonder if there might be a price fall in rural homes if the costs of the private car continue to spiral and people have to do a cost-benefit analysis of the price of a city home minus the need to run a car at all.
Exacto:T
Where I live - I have already been absolutely astounded by just how much more I can get for my money only a few miles out in recent times - spluttering with "But...but...but...thats MUCH nicer than what I have for notta lotta more money...."....hence the frequent "Wonder whether I can afford to go back to my semi-rural routes?" pondering.....I have the feeling that, in my area, a LOT of peeps are heading urbanwise these days...
Wouldnae suit a lot of peeps - but once one is no longer hunting for Mr or Miss Right (Mr Right in my case) and "So what - about jobs:cool:" then it becomes a more viable proposition in some ways.....
Ponder...ponder...ponder....:idea::think:...fresh air:D...MUCH less traffic ...:Dnoise:D:D...more Nature:D
....<walks off pondering still>0 -
Another wonderfilled day!
I have stencilled a chimney pot that was given to me by a freecycler.
I made a chilli together with my youngest (no TVP, but bulked out to a ratio of 3:2 lentils & mixed beans:meat!)
Was able to extend hospitality to a dear friend that came over to collect his bike at the very same time we were dishing up!
Washed bedding and aired the duvet on the line at the same time as the sheets were drying. Ah, the smell of sunshine!
I have also discovered that the VERY BEST way of eating lentils is to sprout them. They are ready to munch after a couple if days. The nutritional benefits of this is astronomical. I am definitely putting them to soak tonight!
I also put up some rustic roosting perches in the hens walk in enclosure using the massive branches of an elder tree that I had to lop off. How resourceful!!!
I am now feeling quite content!:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Larumbelle, nice to see you back, whom ever you are:rotfl:
Hope the bowel surgery was a success, I had some many years ago and it was very successful but you must do as you are told and let yourself heal! - guess how I know that??? Glad you have found something to do, would love to see a pic of your finished knitting - I knit any old colours for my house woolies and frequently am various shades of meringue
Got lots of fiddly bits done today and am happy with my success, just trying to keep my mind off the budget. Petrol is becoming a precious commodity isnt it? Every journey has to be considered now and its our last freedom taken away. I used to love packing a picnic and we would drive off to some where peaceful but no moreClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Grey queen - dont know if anyone else has mentioned tesco gold for your crown if you still have it. they pay good rates and its fast.Mum, wife and dinnerlady!0

I've got to be honest, I just about tolerate TVP and OH cannot stand it at all - even if I don't tell him I've added any he knows! I bought it after reading about it in the Tightwad Gazette and it remains one of my biggest frugal disappointments.
My frugal mince now is bulked out with lentils or mung dahl and also with some porridge oats, I sometimes add beans too depending on recipe. When I batch-cook mince I get some of all different types - usually I wait until I've got oome each of whoopsied pork, lamb, turkey and beef mince and mix it all together. Sounds odd but tastes very nice!
I sprout seeds but never thought to sprout and eat lentils! I did grow one as a houseplant once though. It was not enormously attractive, it was a conversation point though
Ginny, I am already learning... got a right telling off from the doc. But I'm not a very patient patient at all, I am bored to tears and having to sit back and let OH run around after me is not my style at all.
I am a total beginner at knitting, you will probably laugh your backside off when you see my pitiful attemptsthis is the first time I have ever knitted anything with sleeves
and even then I am using super chunky yarn and 10mm needles :rotfl: But I got the wool dirt cheap, cadged the pattern and borrowed the big needles, so what's the worst that can happen? And besides, it's knitting up really quickly.
HJ, thanks for the good wishes. I am jealous of all these people who find proper wool garments to felt. Charity shops round here are great for some things but you'd do well to find a jumper that didn't give you an electric shock :rotfl:
My seed planting is all going to be a little bit late this year. I have about a billion different varieties of everything to sow as well. Pretty much the only seeds that have been sown are the various houseplant seeds that we started in January, almost none of which have actually germinated yet. BTW anyone who grows their own, get yourself on the Thompson and Morgan mailing lists - I've had about £40 of free seeds off them this year!0 -
Hurray, dad has been and constructed my second veg plot tonight and even put a bit of compost in it for me :j. Can not wait to get stuck into it. Sent him off home with some tomato plants.
Hope everyone is Ok, will catch up with the thread later in the week.
Keep well
Mrs VPI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.
