Just caught up with the posts! Things move really quickly on here sometimes :)

Both my DD's cried at night - luckily our neighbours were good . . . but it was payback time really as they were mad keen DIY-ers and all the time we were neighbours (10 years) they spent every weekend and evening drilling, scraping and hammering without us complaining :) . . . and they had been parents themselves :)

Housework day today so an OS non spending day

Have just borrowed some freezing & preserving book from the library with a view to buying a extra pack or 2 every week of Aldi's Super 6 to freeze/preserve for stock. This week ,they have 6 large tomatoes for 39p, which I think will be the equilivent to two tins of tomatoes so will work out a bit cheaper to buy and freeze these than buy tinned :)!

    Have a good weekend everyone

  • just wanted to post a few tips that I did today in the chance it may help others...

I spotted 2 jars of jam in Lidl for £1.50 and its the best jam, very fruity so I got 10 jars. Soap in Wilkos was 79p for 4 bars of shield so got a few packs of that and then trotted off to superdrug and got 4 books of stamps as they are 5% off at the mo and Martins tips says they are going up in April, so double whammy there. Also I noticed that 6 stamps were £2.33 and 12 stamps were £4.67 so I got the books of 6 and saved 4p! (a penny on each book)

I have done a meal plan for the week while checking out lidls special offers on the website and my weekly shop came in at £49 this week but I got loads of chicken and meat on special offer so it will do for us later too.

I got some funding from work for an open uni course I wanted to do which would have cost me nearly £800 (more as it would have been what I earned before tax) apparently the funding budget is running out so I got in quick!

Got some tops for the kids from the charity shop and they are pleased with them too :)

Sorted out my daughters ISA for her as the rate drops to .5% from 3.5% and managed to transfer to one for 2.5% so her little nest egg for college is safer!

I'm always looking for ways to trim the cost of everything and it is getting harder for everyone, I too will never forget the days when we had no money and people used to laugh at our frugal ways, they are not laughing now though as we got through the tough times together and managed.

Good luck everyone, hope you save some money this week! I'll post if I think of any more tips :)

  • ps just remembered another! I read Martins email this week and he said (not only to buy stamps which I did, but)to get dental treatment before April so I change dmy appointment and going next week instead of in a few weeks time. :)

Am just back from Asda, and I have bought a years worth of soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodarant etc. All 50p each, except for the soap - six bars of dove in pkt for 1.00. Am pleased as its all less to worry about when we have moved.
Off out to dinner at friends house this evening so just got kids to feed and have served leftovers for lunch.
It's a beautiful day here bright and cheerful, have been able to line dry, which will obviously save on electricity.

So how did the rice pudding go down??.....Im mad keen on rice since I found it microwaved lovely...:D I dont add sugar or anything it taste just right to me, although I cant have sugar I suppose ive got use to not adding it in foods..........I used just normal long grain rice tesco brand, yet when I went in the co op today to replenish stocks of rice..!!:j:D I bought the co op own brand and it say on the packet for puddings where as the tesco didnt say anything .......nerver mind rice is rice to me......:j

It was nice - I used smart price rice, I did add a little sugar though. I found it took longer than I thought - not 25 minutes but more like 40 minutes to absorb all the milk. But when it was done it was very nice :D
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

Well done redlady. :) I am hoping to be able to do something similar when we have bought ours, the rate we are getiing is awful, but as we are buying it under valuation price I am hoping that in a years time we can remortgage at a better LTV and get a better deal, so its good to hear someone else has managed it :)

Kidcat- work out what will improve your LTV and dont lose sight of it. Also, if you have any debt then throw everything you have at it. It really does make a difference. I knew what I had to do but if you work out the LTV that you want now based upon the current value then you have your goal. Plus redemption penalties. Good luck and yes, it can be done.
