Grey Queen, perhaps you could get a sofa with cushions that lift up, like in a caravan, so that you can put all your stuff actually IN the sofa?:rotfl: My only other suggestion, for what it's worth, is to get hold of some identically sized tubs (though you may wish to label them rather better than I did if you don't want to end up with salt instead of rice :D). I got loads of tubs from the kitchens at work and I would think that most restaurants/care homes/schools who do hot food for the kids on site would be happy to get rid of the vast number of these they get through. They stack really well and therefore take up far less room in the cupboards - also I can decant things like pasta, flour and rice (and let's not forget the salt) into them...
:) Thanks for the tip, ChocClare. It'll be a while before I'm in the market for a sofa (and I've never bought a new one in my life :o) but I think it'll be worth researching and shelling out for a new one with extra storage options, when the time comes.

:) I'm going to have to look at modifying the 3 foot x 5' 9" bike shed which comes with my flat to be able to store my potato harvest. I've always sucessfully overwintered them (sacked and blanketed) in my lottie shed as there is neither space nor the correct temperature in the Shoebox. Alas, they got badly frosted and I lost the equivalent of one of my two sacks. I'm self-sufficient in spuds and eat my Kestrels until the new ones are lifted. I'm very annoyed as I detest waste and I worked hard for that crop and protected the growing plants successfully from late season frosts when my lottie neighbours were getting theirs burned...... :( Ah well, the oldies in my family have got caught, too, for the first time since the terrible winter of 62-63. Will be looking at a rack, will have to be free-standing as the shed walls are breezeblock and I wouldn't trust them to bear much weight. Shoebox Towers is concrete-framed, brick-faced and the inner walls are these smallish charcoal-coloured breezeblocks (well, under the plaster of course!) and they are beggars to drill into....very poor hold. My Mum had fun setting me up in here with shelves and pictures.....

 Idiot Boy came in at 1.23 am and had kept me awake ever since. That's two nights on the trot with almost no sleep. He's awake now and clattering about up there. Can you believe he was throwing a BALL around for his CAT on a bare concrete-and-tile floor in the middle of the night?!

:D Will be up at the office in a couple of hours but I won't be walking under that huge light-fitting which started to crack up yesterday, assuming it's still hanging off that high ceiling and hasn't already hit the deck...:rotfl:

I apologize unreservedly for my comments on my big cupboard..when i know some of you are struggling to find places to put stuff..
I enquired yesterday about moving to a smaller house but with a larger garden..seems if i give up my 4 bedroom house i will go straight to top of list and have the pick of places to live..had a look at the ones the council are offering and well quite frankly they are not nice and need lots of work doing on them and the area's are not too good either..told the council to forget it basically will stay where we are til something we like comes up..but they rang not long ago offering us a 3 bed in the worst area of town..told them politely no thanks but the lady on the phone started going on about how many people need a 4 bed house..i know they do but come on i am not moving for them ..i want to move for me and family...think i might regret just enquiring coz thats all i did...
Right i'm off to get cracking..will take my frustration out on the pastry...

Not directly aimed at you but for those who can't grasp it clean is clean and stains are stains. Everyone I know says my teatowels and washing up cloths are dirty because of there colour? The same people claim there work clothes are clean despite being covered in stains. If you wash it, it is clean the fact that your washing up cloths are grey makes no differenace. If it is washed its clean. END OFF

I was actually answering another poster who said they wouldn't use terry nappies as towels only floor cloths, and my answer was to re-iterate that said nappies were as clean as they could possbily be before being used as towels.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

Just gone hunting for the post concerned by gillst - and couldnt find it (well - I havent had so much as a sip of my first cup of coffee of the day yet...blame that...:o).

Anyone got a link to that post please?:)

(or care to send me the info. by PM please? - thanks)

It appears to have been deleted Ceridwen, as it was in between the two posts I made last night.

Possibly classed as giving medical advice?

Shame, as I think most - if not all - of us on here have got enough common sense to realise that taking honey & cinnamon is not likely to be a "cure-all", but as it's non medicinal, there's no harm in trying something so natural and simple.

I'll certainly be giving it a go next time I get a bladder infection - which I seem to have become prone to the last 2 years. Not instead of seeking medical advice (as water infections can be extremely serious if not treated) but prior to when I get the first inkling of an infection.

Something that's so natural has got to be worth a try.

This is simply my opinion - I'm not offering medical advice :)

The info on honey and cinnamon is one of the first links listed when I did a Google search so not hard to find if you are interested. Mardatha mentioned some time ago that honey is supposed to have antibiotic properties. When I have a cold coming I find a hot toddy made with lemon very soothing and these days I make it with manauka honey. No idea if it works or not but hey, I was going to have a hot toddy anyway.

However since retiring I am not as exposed to other peoples' germs so, thankfully, have not had as many colds (you wait, I'll have a beauty shortly!!) Plus I now wash my hands obsessively whenever I have been in public places - that's much more OS than buying antibac sprays (and that ad that tries to scare you by saying you need a no touch soap dispenser really riles me - it may have germs on but you wash your hands AFTER you touch it - Duh!!)
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

    I've been Money Tipped!
These cold mornings really are something. I find I'm colder now than I was all winter, but not in the house enough to make it worth while putting the woodburner on. I'm usually a cold weather person but this year I really am looking forward to summer. sorry to write so many posts about coldness, but it is really terrible consuming ATM for me. This morning my very beautiful and extravagant Aveda oil was frozen solid and the cats clung on to my arms as I got up...begging me to stay warm in bed with them.

PS so glad to see you back Annie. Have you kept your own allotment? That would give you enough land to keep you in veggies till kingdom come!

I suppose you aren't supposed to sell produce from the allotment, even if it's made into jams and chutneys etc first? If you were, then renting a small stand in the shabby chic shop would probably do quite well

Honey most definitely has antibacterial properties. It's tried and tested. You can put it on cuts, grazes and all sorts of lesions without resorting to anti-bac creams and whatnot. I think that's one of the reasons why manuka honey has become so expensive.

And please, don't get me started on those anti-bac wipes and sprays ads either! One of the things they never tell you is that good old soap and hot water has anti-bacterial properties in any case, so all of those careful Mummies out there worried about their babies and toddlers catching unmentionables are probably wasting a lot of money.

Welcome back Annie56. I've missed your most interesting and amusing posts. Please come back often.

Are you serious honey and cinnamon cures most diseases????? Or is this a joke/irony?
Listen in everybody give up your cancer drugs as they all can be cured by honey and cinnamon?
Does this includes Infectious disease, Heart disease,
Systemic disease, Digestive disease and even Hair disease. We can now replace 7000 drugs with cinnamon and honey. Have you any children? Does the cinnamon and honey cures most disease apply to them??

It's hard to tell if you are adressing me or gillst but for the record I was responding tongue in cheek to gillst's post. :)
