HJ - I try to get as much as I can in the summer so I dont have to worry about it in the winter. I have also been costing it over a period of the year I have been here and it wasnt as frightening as I thought. I have also been trying out different suppliers and will settle on a couple.
That would have been the sensible thing for us to do but we thought the wood from MIL would be ready in time. It certainly hasn't been as expensive as we thought. Alot of the wood we burn from MIL's garden is softwood and this chestnut is hard and pretty good value for money.0 -

Lidl I suspect you'll just have to save their website to your favourites and keep checking on their offers.

On the bike thing. i have a bike which I use every weekend for exercise and had thought about an electric bike to go to the shops with. But having a good look about my local town there seems to be nowhere to park a bike. There are railings, but no specified places. Not bike friendly at all.0

Evening all,
well, I think I have found a second job which will fit around my main part time seasonal one! Upsides - reasonably well paid, certain amount of flexibility. not seasonal. Downsides - it's rural and remote, which would mean def. hanging on to both cars for now. Also - it involves working for an elderly gent - so may be time limited!
We are having a trial period, starting tomorrow, to see how we get on as it is basically housekeeping, and is new for him and me. Seems a nice old chap though, so hopefully it will work out. Further problem - may be some cooking - I am veggie and he is not! Would be a very welcome addition to household income though, so will do my best to make it work.
Have only had time to skim posts, will go back when I have more time to reread. Hope everyone is OK.0 -

Evening all.how are you all today..wasn't it a glorious day..sun was shining, birds singing..bloody cold but lovely..i would love an electric bike but sadly they are way out of our price range..have to use my own legs to pedal..got a trailer to pop tots in and they are great..got great thighs lol..it also doubles as pushchair..waterproof,windproof etc..they are lovely and snug in it..unlike poor ole me and dad..about knackered, puffing and panting..nevermind..
Anyway had a no spend weekend..made up for it today though..went to CS and got myself 2 tops £1 each and an old fashioned deep-sided pie dish £1..got home and foud out that i have won a giveaway on a blog i follow..so thats made my day...
Rearranged my pot cupboard this afternoon..never knew i had soo much stuff in there..to explain the pot cupboard is massive and its in the dining room..it extends under the stairs..so pretty big..anyway i have far to much stuff in there..so i have narrowed it down..if i use an item weekly it stays,if i haven't used it for months it goes..and it has worked..got a lot more room but i am not filling it with bits again...
Hubby got an interview this wk so fingers crossed..i have applied for a job, waitress with my daughter..so hopefully i might get it..
Got to do some more baking tomorrow..its all gone again..going to make tarts, twinks hobnobs, choc chip cookies, rice crispy cakes, rocky road and finally sponge fingers..so going to be busy...
Got my census form today..anyone else get theirs?
Only 2 payments to go to me being debt free..can't wait..need the extra money..don't we all...

Hi
Finally found you all, well its lovley to see the thread back here again, have been lurking and watching and suffering from morning sickness and an expanding waistband and feeling defeated about the ever rising petrol/diesel prices and running the garage.
Monty and I are esconsed in his cottage with his daughter, living his frugal lifestyle, even his boss ( ex rockstar with money eho bought a big house and land and doesnt know what a weed or flower looks like) has been pulling his belt in and moaning about the cost of things but this leaves Monty pretty much alone with the two part timers to keep the gardens etc decent.
Thank goodness for the woodburner and all the fallen trees...Monty found an old Aga in one of the outhouses and a friend of his has reconditioned it and its up and working saves a bomb on leccie etc and cooking on its brill.
My dads finally given up trying to keep the petrol side of the garage going, its like fighting a losing battle and the petrol account finally showed a nil profit last month and it doesnt look like getting any better so from the end of this month we give up selling petrol. we have kept the car repair/MOT side going thats doing well as everyone is making do and keeping there cars rather than buying new ones. And we have let the shop part of the garage to a lady and gent that does furniture repairs/carpentry and shabby chic etc thats going like a bomb once again folk are buying second hand and reusing.
Ive had a great time lately making cakes to order and thats extra cash coming in and Montys bumper crops from last summer and autumn have kept decent meals on the table...hes sitting at the table planning his veggie garden and what hes growing this year and the allotments all planned out and greenhouse will be in full production.
So all in all with LETS bartering and battening down the hatches we have managed but feeling the pinch a bit, and the future prognosis for the state of the country isnt looking too bright.
Im back folks,,,scouring the OS boards for recipes and tips and hope youll welcome me back into the fold/
Some gossip ..Ex OH has gone to live in Australia, and blonde floozie was last heard of down south with another persons hubbie she sure dont hang about..thats the last I will mention those pair.
So keep up the good work, Im trying to sort out a friend of mine, no sooner one crisis sorted and another one appears:p
Keep well and I will start putting in my pennysworth if I feel I can contribute something useful if I may
Love and best wishes to you all.....keep up the good work

Mine is approx 700 square feet (not counting hallway and loft). So - now I know how to compare and see what is "like for like" and what is bigger or smaller than mine....Softstuff Can I send my OH to you for a week's Boot Camp training in "how to live with less?". He's the world's worst hoarder and our loft is crammed with things "that might come in useful one day".
I don't think there's a way to train him, pretty sure it's in the dna :rotfl:
I had a discussion with someone about living with less, and he said that he had a garage so full of stuff, that for the last 10 years he hadn't had to buy anything for his DIY jobs. I queried how much it has cost him to have that space for 10 years, but he seemed quite emotionally attached to his screws and whatnotSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Good to see you back Annie :T
Glad to see you're happily settled in domestic bliss with Monty and his daughterYou sound like you've found yourself a lovely little community to live in.
Sorry to hear about the petrol side of the garage, but glad to hear that you're managing to keep your heads above water.
Shame about the morning sickness - I was hospitalised with both of mine due to morning sickness, so I can sympathise, but it'll all be worth it in the end. When are you due?
