That's a really interesting post gillst - thanks for sharing :)

I love honey and I love cinnamon, and I tend to be prone to bladder infections so I'll be trying that in future.

It may save me the cost of a course of anti biotics, and save my body from the negative effects that they have on the immune system.

EDIT: AH! I googled and got my original link...oh...blame the fact I've overdone the wine limit today...LIFE (and other problems) time......and I have absolutely no other excuse for not "clicking" sooner...as I've now had three cups of coffee today...so my brain should be fully "awake"......

Oh dear. Ceridwen, I hope you feel better in the morning and have a good day tomorrow.:)

Annie, lovely to see you back and glad things are going so well with Monty. And also that the ex and the floozie have gone on to pastures new!

Gillst, thank you for the info about honey - have just posted it to DH as honey and cinnamon are his favourite foods and he could do with reducing his cholesterol/risk of heart attack/gas etc... He is sitting opposite me reading it and going ooh..

I have just had my shopping delivered - had a bit of a stock-up this week as I discovered that DD had chomped her way through what I thought was an unassailable pasta supply. Also, I finished a box of rice (I keep it in 4 litre tubs from work) and went to get another from the store cupboard only to discover it was...salt...

Anyway, Kohinoor basmati, which, I am reliably informed, is the brand of choice for many Indians, is on sale at Tesco's 2 for £10 - in other words, 10kg of basmati for a tenner, which is pretty good.

And their 2kg and 3kg packets of pasta/spaghetti are also on offer - half price on the spaghetti, I seem to recall.

I apologise unreservedly if those of you with tiny storage areas would rather not know this information.

Grey Queen, perhaps you could get a sofa with cushions that lift up, like in a caravan, so that you can put all your stuff actually IN the sofa?:rotfl: My only other suggestion, for what it's worth, is to get hold of some identically sized tubs (though you may wish to label them rather better than I did if you don't want to end up with salt instead of rice :D). I got loads of tubs from the kitchens at work and I would think that most restaurants/care homes/schools who do hot food for the kids on site would be happy to get rid of the vast number of these they get through. They stack really well and therefore take up far less room in the cupboards - also I can decant things like pasta, flour and rice (and let's not forget the salt) into them...

I bet they wouldn't. All that money spent on research over the years and the answers to MOST diseases in the larder all the time.

gillst, I'm sure honey is a remarkable substance and have certainly seen enough documented evidence of it's healing properties, but I'd be a little cautious of promoting it as a certain Victorian cure-all :D It's a shame that over statements tend to be made by certain "experts". If there was a little more restraint shown, I feel the beneficial properties would be enjoyed by a far greater number of people. :D

Indeed. ;) I don't doubt that honey and cinnamon contain healing properties but I would hate to see people given false hope that diseases as serious as arthritis and heart disease willl be unquestionably cured by them if these claims are not true.

I have an electric bike and it is superb, I bought it after a lot of research and after I got rid of my car. One full battery charge will easily do 40 miles and the bike itself is a supreme example of engineering. It is a pedelec ie power only kicks in when the motor senses that I am struggling and I can adjust how much effort I want to use. The bike is excellent for getting fit esp when starting from unfit and I can sail up the steepest of hills, while carrying two fully loaded panniers, milk and chicken etc. It is a kalkhof and was expensive so I use the best of locks when I park it

Which one? Have always wanted one but have 3 bikes already (not power asisted) and keep thinking I will get lazy and use it for the pub. As it is not unusual for hedges to jump out on me on the way home I was also worried about breaking it. How robust would you say it was. Is it heavy I strugle at times getting a bike of me in a ditch. 40 miles? on what setting?
