Yep thats right 27 lovely girls, 21 goldline,3 speckeldy,1 bluebell,1 maran, and theres one more,,but for the life of me I cant remember what make and model it is :eek:!!!!!!!it will come to me...I can see it in my head but cant name it , another senior moment im having.......doh .........

Im sure I could live without my husband :eek: but not my girls....:D:D......

You know what its like you start off with a few , but gradually they increase, they are all good layers........people always want fresh free range eggs......

My little yorkie Billy who is 15 months old was introduced to the hens a few weeks ago, I done it very gradual over a few days ,at first he wanted to play and chase and they didnt,:eek: I shouted at him a few times and he stopped in his tracks,:)now he goes in the hen house and run with me, and the only thing hes bothered about is eating their leftovers,:eek:like cauliflower stalks etc..:eek:oh he his a mischief pup.........my other dog rosie also yorkie age 15 yrs old couldnt give a toss what billy gets up to...........:D..........

As you can see theres never no waste in food in our house, what us adults leave on the plates its the dogs turn then its the hens.....if theres anything left after billy has been around.....

Sounds like my house...only thing is we daren't let our dog near them..he is a whippet and chases anything that runs...

I'm reading a fabulous book that somebody on here recommended to me. It's called "A Croft in the Hills" by Katharine Stewart. About a life far removed from shops and material things and snobbishness. Loving it.

There's also "A Hovel in the Hills" by Elizabeth West and the coupla other books she wrote. Also a nice read:)

Hmmm...reminds me...must check out if I've got any nice fiction books to read now (I rarely read fiction - some sorta lingering "Protestant Work Ethic" that all reading has to be useful....yep...I know...I know...). Could do with a good read of something "light" right now - where I'm trying to persuade myself that I dont really...well...maybe just a little bit...want to start throwing things at someone In The Real World who...ummm...just deserves it a leetle bit (well- alright then - quite a lot in fact.....). I prescribe Rescue Remedy and classical music for myself - followed by a bout of "light" reading.....LOL

Kittie - have you got any ideas or thoughts on where oil is going ? and what we can do to counter the higher cost of living ?

its going up mardatha and the scenario is scary. This is a futures chart
    http://futures.tradingcharts.com/chart/QM/M

you`ll have to copy and paste

easily $150 and quite likely $200 unless by some miracle the middle east quietens down

I wouldn`t be surprised if oil rationing comes in, unless it happens by price

Wheat is also rocketing and we are set to have another drought this year so guess the consequence

I wish I knew how to counter the high cost of living, I feel as though I personally am going backwards in time eg re-starting making my own wine like I used to in the 70s-80s, it was needs must then and is needs must again. Ok it is enjoyable but hey don`t we all put a smily face on everything we do.

I suppose it is down to living a simpler life but easier said than done as people generally no longer live near their place of work

I am seriously considering giving up my job to reduce my costs. No job = no need for car = approx £100 pcm diesel, £120 pa tax, £5-£600 pa running costs and £45 pm insurance. So in effect, I could afford to take a job nearer to home with £200 less in my pay packet. All the other benefits will need to be added up though, especially long term job security, which I have at the moment, being employed by one of the larger, and still growing employers in the country. Its a hard choice though.

Hippeechiq - I bought 2 Blackcurrant bushes from Pound!and yesterday, at that price it would be worth you taking a chance in a large Planter/pot - that's assuming you have a Pound!land near you.;)
Thanks for that scotsaver but I'd have to take a £3.20 bus journey to get there. I'd ordinarily consider doing that, but for the fact that the fruit bushes in £idls are £1.49 each and within walking distance. They're not too large so I could easily carry them home on foot. I appreciate you taking the time to give me the heads up on that though :)

Apologies if this has been asked before, but what does everyone store their flour in? I found some weevils in the bottom of a flour bag last week _pale_ I threw the flour out, and froze the other bags of flour that I have. Took everything out of the cupboard, wiped down with bleach and made sure that everything else like pulses, pasta, rice and so on are now in sealed containers, and luckily (I've checked every day since) I seem to have contained the problem, but I haven't got anything big enough to store 1kg bags of flour in.

I have a big plastic crate with a clip on lid in my kitchen, which I store all my flour etc. in, and them once they are empty enough they go into big glass jars from Ikea. Come to think of it, I think those are 1KG jars Hippeechiq.

I don't envy you Jackie, and I think that your problem is a problem that a lot of people are facing, although probably few feel as secure in their jobs as you do. There's an awful lot to be said for job security in these unsettled times hun, so do think long and hard before making a move :)

Brilliant idea re the plastic crates! They're also cheap and cheerful enough for my pocket - thank you :) I'm about 30 miles from the nearest Ikea, but A$da have glass jars like Kilner jars, but it shows the capacity as being 1L & 1.5L rather than g/kg, so I'm not sure whether they would be big enough?
