I only have 3 hens but they give me 21 eggs a week between them - and there is a limit to how many eggs my family will eat - I give away some to friends/neighbours etc, we had boiled egg for breakfast each this morning, I have made a cake (and nearly burnt it - but rescued it :j) and its a roast for tea today - so 2 eggs for the yorkshire pudding - but that still leaves me 14 eggs languishing in the fridge .....
Any ideas anyone?
They will last for weeks in the fridge. Just make sure you rotate them.;)
You can freeze eggs but I haven't tried it. When I have a glut I make a batch of real custard or ice cream and a big tub of egg mayo sandwich filler for the fridge.0 -

Its okay - I've not changed my name to Sharon Astyk and my home to America. Its not MY blog.
The rules are that we cant post links to our OWN blogs - but we are allowed/do post links to other peoples blogs:). So - quite a few of us post up links to OTHER PEOPLES blogs that we know will be useful/interesting to others on here.
I dont think somehow that anyone would mistake me for a Jewish academic with husband and children living in America.....LOL0 -

Hippeechiq - I bought 2 Blackcurrant bushes from Pound!and yesterday, at that price it would be worth you taking a chance in a large Planter/pot - that's assuming you have a Pound!land near you.;)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

I'm reading a fabulous book that somebody on here recommended to me. It's called "A Croft in the Hills" by Katharine Stewart. About a life far removed from shops and material things and snobbishness. Loving it.
Thanks hun.Gonna order it from the library:D:D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

That's good news although I thought it was any blog because of the whole advertising rule, there's been things I've avoided posting because I thought we couldn't - I distinctly remember links to blogs being removed before. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

No, you linked to one we both read a couple of months ago and it was removed. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I dont recall that - and there may have been a mistake made. I know there was one incident where a blog link was wrongly removed by MSE by mistake - and had to be re-put up again (making it clearer that it was someone else's blog...).
Anyways - I have checked and my "Living on $12,000 a year" thread that ran for quite some time here on Old Style Board is still very much there - complete with the MSE add-on in the first post that it was recommended in Martin's Weekly MoneyTips Email:D
- and that thread quite specifically gives loadsa links to useful blogs (all other peoples'):D
Now - back on topic....what food storage have peeps been doing recently?:)0 -
Well ceridwen..i have been storing like a good un..freezing nearly all the veg,and got hubby to bring my 2 kitchen cupboards back from the shed and put them up in the utility room..i have my jams, chutneys in bottom of one and in the other i have lots of tinned food and in the other i have lots of packet and boxed foods..enough to last us for a few wks if the sh*t hits the fan so to speak..got an extra bag of nappies and put them away..got dried milk yuk i kow but better than nothing..got half a cupboard left to fill..not too sure what to put in it..but will defo look at spending the £5 a week on getting extra...am currently looking into buying really big tubs with lids that i can keep my flour, sugar and other goods in..without them going off or getting infected with weevils(not that i have any)..
ftm
Before i forget i have a huge bottle of veg oil and just keep topping up my little bottle in the kitchen..seems to be lasting longer that way..we are very careful with it..olive oil is in there too but that is broght out on special occasions lol...Be who you are, not what the world expects you to be..:smileyhea

Yep thats right 27 lovely girls, 21 goldline,3 speckeldy,1 bluebell,1 maran, and theres one more,,but for the life of me I cant remember what make and model it is :eek:!!!!!!!it will come to me...I can see it in my head but cant name it , another senior moment im having.......doh .........
Im sure I could live without my husband :eek: but not my girls....:D:D......
You know what its like you start off with a few , but gradually they increase, they are all good layers........people always want fresh free range eggs......
My little yorkie Billy who is 15 months old was introduced to the hens a few weeks ago, I done it very gradual over a few days ,at first he wanted to play and chase and they didnt,:eek: I shouted at him a few times and he stopped in his tracks,:)now he goes in the hen house and run with me, and the only thing hes bothered about is eating their leftovers,:eek:like cauliflower stalks etc..:eek:oh he his a mischief pup.........my other dog rosie age 15 yrs old couldnt give a toss what billy gets up to...........:D..........
As you can see theres never no waste in food in our house, what us adults leave on the plates its the dogs turn then its the hens.....if theres anything left after billy has been around.....0
