I have glaucoma controlled by drops. I am checked at hospital every 6-12 months. No one (neither hospital consultant nor optician) has ever suggested that I shouldn't drive.

I guess it may not be a problem until you hit 70 and have to declare yourself fit to renew your licence. Do they ask about such tings then?

Please, I presume he has two eyes, presumably has only the sight in one eye. You make it sound as if he literally has only one eye.

    :D
I will re phrase my initial enquiry.......
The person had 2 eyes originally but had one removed.

    Thanks for you replies..........
I am flabbergated that you can legally drive with only the sight in one eye.........

Perfectly legal to drive with one eye and most who do have come to terms with the major problem it brings, distance perception.

As long as you can read a car number plate at the prescribed distance ( 20.7 meters I think ) Having sight in only one eye is no problem.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    * 20 metres for vehicles displaying the new-style number plate
    * 20.5 metres for vehicles displaying old-style number plates

    He was 'armless enough..

My ex next door neighbour only has one eye, ( and one glass eye ) and drives every day without incident.

He is always saying that he will keep an eye out for me.:)

I know a one eyed taxi driver.

I think the rules may have changed now but there are grandfather rules in place which mean your eye sight is measured to the standard required when you passed your initial test so anyone who passed more than 20 years ago only needs to be able to see a license plate (with either eye).
