I have replied to Dawn at Asda today and told her the 1st 8 digits of my cards - I have 3 accounts - so I have different "pots" for different money.

    This is what I wrote:

    Dear Dawn

Thank you very much for taking this enquiry forward. I know my friends on the MoneySavingExpert Forum, where this is being discussed a great deal, will also appreciate your efforts taking this forward to the Petrol Team.

I currently have 3 accounts with Co-op Bank and all cards are marked as Visa Debit and start with the numbers 4508 7500 and as such should work in your pumps but due to previously being visa electron accounts they do not.

I would like to point out that my cards have NEVER had the Visa Electron insignia on them, as I was issued a Visa Debit marked card when I opened each account.

I look forward to hearing from you further.

    Regards

    Donna

So we shall see what comes from that.

I suspect it will not make much difference even if they are aware that 450875 is now visa debit. The way the machine works, is when you put the card it, it cross references the AID number on the card with a list to check that you have inserted a vaild card type. The machine is preset to reject AID 321010 (Visa Electron) and since Co-Op never bothered to change the AID to Visa debit when they changed the card number to visa debit, its always going to come back Visa Electron.

be nice if you could enter a fixed amount say £30 and have the pump shut off once that £30 of petrol is in your car. I hate going £29.95-£29.99 then teasing it to get £30.01 damn!!

:j:j:jI was thinking exactly the same thing the other day!!!! I very rarely want to fill my car, but do have spasmodic fingers and end up paying 20.01 or 10.03 when all I want is £10 or £20 in the car!

Maybe that can be the fuel people's innovation.

  • they do one of those already, you press the button before you fill up, you can put a cash value or litres limit....I have never tried it as I am terrified it'll not shut off and there will be petrol everywhere!!

Seen that at a petrol station recently, think may be Morrisons (if not, it'll be Tesco).

I discussed this same issue the other day saying the same thing there should be a way to set what amount of fuel you want because as the price of fuel is now so high its near dam impossible to hit the amount you want to spend without going over. Of course for the most part this would mean the garages spending money to help a customer which they wont do as think how much more profit they make when we call go over a bit.

Here is the latest email from ASDA, received today at 2pm.

    Hello ****

Thank you for your email in response to my colleague Dawn.

I have passed on your card details to the relevant department, in order for them to look into the card problem at our petrol stations.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused **** and if there is anything else I can help you with in the future, please let me know.

    Kind regards

  • That sounds like they are taking action dojoman. This thread has been really useful I think to get Asda to take some action. It's not the biggest concern in the world, but it would be nice if they did something about the problem. Bankrupts are often trying to keep every penny possible, and when it comes to cheap fuel Asda are usually up there with the best of them.

Had it been just me emailing Asda I don't think we would have got past my first post which hasn't amounted to very much on its own. Because others have got involved it means we look like getting some sort of result here. I am interested to know why over a third of people voting on the poll have said they aren't emailing Asda but are interested enough in the thread to vote, would any of the 'no' voters care to share their reasons?
