I dont see the big deal... any member whose been buying and selling for a decent amount of time will have had their fair share of bargains and finds.
I bought a guitar listed as the wrong brand and badly pictured. I could tell by the pics tho it didnt add up so i took a risk and it turned out to be the more expensive one i hedged my bets on. Paid £500 and sold it for nearly £1300.
Dont see why people cant reveal their bargains.
I also bought two t-shirts outa USC in edinburgh, £5 each, just sold one this week for £26!!!! The brand is 55 DSL.0

I could repeat some of the sentiments above, but I won't (ok, greeneye? ). ).
I just want to see THE PAINTING!
Please Norma, wait 30 days, then put us out of our misery and let us all see it! 0 0

Good guess but not quite. It was being sold as a Gibson Les Paul Classic Goldtop.... but I noticed the inlays werent green like a classics and it had pickup covers. I suspected it might have been a Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop 57 RI goldtop and it turned out to be.
Earlier on this year I was searching the completed auctions and found a £2,000, brand new gibson les paul custom being sold as a buy it now of ONLY £600. I checked the feedback and right enuff the transaction was completed.
Guess the seller just didnt have a clue how much it was worth. They buyer could sell it for £1250 easy peasy, probably nearer £2,000 on a good day.0

My best ever profit was on a Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop Spider man Class 5. basically a les paul with spiderman images all over it. only 15 in the world and a couple are owned by actors involved in the films.
Bought it for $2100 buy it now in the states... imported it.. and went UNSOLD at £1300 here in the UK!!.. then a US bidder offered me $7,000. I agreed after he managed to haggle it down to $6,700.
It worked out at £2,200 profit.
The idiot then tried to get a refund because he said he had seen one cheaper at $5,000 on ed roman guitars but luckily he backed down eventually.0

:T An excellent diversion! I'd suggest you throw in a few more, but some might think it a little repetitive!greeneye wrote:something to make the board a little less repetetive

Hello to all the NICE people on here, especially the likes of Angelcake and Smartie who have been so kind and supportive through all this!
At the risk of this thread going out of control(!) I think I'd better update what's happening and why.
I emailed one of the big auction houses with a description and photos; they were interested and invited me to send the painting to them - which I did. Two days later I got a phone call from them saying that it WAS genuine and the upshot is that it is going to auction early in the new year. I'm thrilled of course and they were so quick in verifying it; can take 4-6 weeks.
Now before anyone starts speculating, I have to say that it certainly isn't worth millions, but I wasn't TOO far off my original guess - a bit less actually, but still great
Now to why I got my thread pulled.
I think I panicked a bit, but I got quite scared and worried when a couple of posters specifically said that they were going to try and find my details; and not just my eBay account either - I'm not really 'au fait' with this cyber world and it rather put the wind up me to say the least. I also got PM'd to death and had to block my personal messages. In hindsight I don't really care if some people were churlish and mean enough to call me a liar - sticks and stones and all that, but when it comes to folk trying to seek you out for whatever reason, well, that's scary and unacceptable. I was naive.
So as not to inflame this more, I think I'll let the whole thing run its course and let you all know what the painting was and the price it realised when the auction's over (that's if you still want to know!)
In the meantime, I'll still be posting on these boards from time to time because it's FUN and there are some lovely people on here.Take care everyone and speak to you soon."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

Norma - thanks for update and good luck with the auction..im thinking there really is something in the saying 'one mans junk is another mans treasure'...you found the treasure - no need for apologies in my view 'Normal' is a dryer setting.0 'Normal' is a dryer setting.0
