Town and City Parking yet again...

Options
Hello Money Saving Expert fans!

I have been looking at this topic closely and I an in the same position as alot of people iin relation to Town And City Parking LTD and A. A. Hutton LLP. My issue is that I have already phoned them and complained and recieved nothing but mockery and insults.

What I find most disturbing is that they have used similar letters to others I have seen on this forum.

Image of the letter from A. A. Hutton was posted here but this site wont let me...

This letter says everything I need to say. My question is that because I have contacted them by phone, is there still any legal obligation to pay up? DO they have any rights whatsoever to try using extortion to force me to pay up?

What I would find useful is some advice on my best course of action please.

  • Sorry for double post, but I cannot seem to edit my posts so I am going to add the following...

I did not have any ticket anywhere on my vehicle and I only knew about it when I got a letter from then some 2 or 3 months later stating that the "fine" had doubled to £60. Instinctively, I returned it as unwanted junk mail, after contacting them on the phone. Then yesterday, I recieved a letter from A. A. Hutton stating that it had gone up to £70! I explained that there was no ticket on my vehicle to the goons of Town & City Parking (A. A. Hutton LLP) and all I recieved was mockery and insults, so getting annoyed, I naturally retaliated and had a go at the fool on the phone with a few obscenities, although I was so annoyed, I felt that retaliating was the best response at the time, now the fool is saying he is going to report me to some telephone enforcement thing. I dont understand, shouldent I do the same thing considering he did it to me? Anyway, I have had them suspend the "debt" while I file an appeal with Town & City Parking. I cannot post images attached via photobucket so I cannot do anything about that, perhaps the administrators can fix this??

My bad, couldent edit cos I wasent logged in. LOL!

You have taken them too seriously the letters are just a chain, it would have been better not to contact them at all, but there is no harm done.

All they have is a registration No of a car, they have then acquired the keepers details from DVLA. They have no idea who was driving, and even if they did they can not fine them! They could try and sue the driver for breach of contract, but they wont because they wont win!
That's why they send aggressive letters and talk crap on the phone. Trying to intimidate you in to paying. The best course of action from now on is just to simply ignore them. As for them reporting your telephone call, thats just another idle threat.

You will find the Town & City and the A A Hutton letters here! https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2214803

PS: you cant post links up until you get more posts! Its to stop the spammers!
  • Trigger,

As has been said, contacting them was just what they want - a bite - so they will hassle you all the more.

There's no real harm done, the fake scam ticket remains just that.

It is unenforceable and they know it.

Sit tight, ignore all attempts they make to contact you, and they will go away.

I know, I've been through this process - twice.
  • Thanks for the advice, I will just ignore them although they are awaiting my appeal, shall I not bother appealing?

And the image I wanted to post was a scanned copy of the letter from A. A. Hutton, nothing more.

I would not bother, but its up to you. However if you do only write My car was parked at and not I parked my car at!

That would still need them to identify the driver! I would hazard a guess that the appeal will be returned as unsuccessful!
  • No doubt, they are clearly trying to extort money out of me... right?

Yep. Extortions a pretty good description for what they try to do.

Got one of these Town and City invoices as a result of a visit to a car park near where we stay in Glasgow. Must have been about a year ago. Went through what seems to be the whole set of letters although it's now been quiet for months - quite disappointing really. I really looked forward to their threats. Made me feel kind of special and wanted.

So, take the advice on offer - ignore (unless you'r actually craving some extra attention from them).

In the mean time, I'm just having to make do with the threats resulting from an Athena invoice my cousin seems to have picked up whilst using my car to visit my mum in Edinburgh. I'm now successfully and enjoyably ignoring those threats as well. :D

Ignore away. If you feel your weakening, post back on here, the advice is superb, simple but effective.....

    IGNORE
    Stranded in the wild west.

    Yes. No doubt.

Do not even think about falling for the idea that you have to 'appeal'. Not only can we save you the time by telling you now what the answer will be 'your appeal has been unsuccessful' but if you did write they would know that you half-believe they have a case against you - and also you may accidentally say whether you were driving which gives them info they do not have to allege a contract.

Do not give them any such information, they are just phishing like a Nigerian emailer does. Do not act like a caught fish - do not bite.

Stop worrying, live your life and laugh at each letter. The whole letter-chain is already shown on our sticky at the top of the forum so you don't need to attach your matching letter here. We've seen it - but have you seen the letter chain in our thread? See my signature and click on the link I mention to view the whole board (the link in question is at the top of this page).

If you've seen the AA Hutton letter-chain shown in our thread then what's to worry about - you know what the computer does next and you'll know when it ends. If you've seen the Watchdog link in another top thread by Crabman, why worry about these cowboys?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Well, I shall ignore them then, although they did say that the "fine" will increase every day till it is paid. Oh well, I shall file thier letters in the wheelie bin for paper recycling from now on then.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep you all updated should I recieve anymore letters although I am in no doubt I will recieve more.

By calling it a fine they are acting in an illegal manner, what a shocker a ppc breaking the law yet again, by increasing it daily is a joke and if it ever went to court they would have explain why this is not penalty and is their loss.

Myself I would appeal, ask them to take you to the independent appeals process in place called the small claims, all they have to do make a claim ;)
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
