Well if people refuse to use the lifeboats then what do they expect?

He could be entitled to housing benefit or SMI, pension credit, council tax benefit. But if he doesn't want them I can't really see why you're asking.

That is the same old comment that people make about the elderly of this country.

"If you don't or won't bother claiming you have only yourself to blame - but don't blame us for taking every penny we can get our hands on"!

What you seem to forget is that those people, like me, see benefits as charity. They see the forms as too complicated. They are frightened to claim anything because of possible repercussions.
    They have, sometimes, misplaced pride.

Don't blame them for that. We of this age remember how it was when we were young and the stigma that claiming Welfare had on a person.

You make it sound as though claiming benefits is a way of life, no different than buying a lottery ticket! It may be to you, but to a lot of us who are over 60, it is seen as failure, embarassment and shame.

I'm not blaming them for anything, I'm pointing out there's no point asking what help is available if you don't want to take that help.

Yes you are quite right right.

It's a good job that the government doesn't have that attitude!
