I think Ann is right here, unless the T&C's specifically state that (which they don't) then they've got you really.

A bank wouldn't count, as the number isn't a forwarding service, you call that number to speak to the bank, and you do, regardless of you getting routed to India or whatever.
  • the point here is that the call to the calling card is not showing at all. its only showing as a direct call to the international number.
for some reason every call made to the calling card has registered as a direct call to india via vodafone.

Sounds like the network have realised what that number is and have excluded it from the free minutes. I've seen it done before when a network get alerted to a calling card number (they don't like them).

In the worst case scenario this may justify applying standard charges for calling UK landline, not charging for calls to India (£700ish  according to the OP).

Having said that, many people do fall victims of failing to enter the number correctly when they do this manually. That's why I always preprogam the entire number if possible, including the final part - to avoid making an error. Without a call history in the phone it will be difficult if not impossible to prove that the number was entered correctly, i.e. without using the green button.

How so? The network would route the call, it would ignore the calling card prefix and carry it as if it were dialled directly.

Nope. They don't say anything about routing and ignoring.
Calls ... are not eligible for your inclusive minutes
    - this means are charged outside of the inclusive minutes. How much? For calling 0207 i.e. UK landline.

No, it doesn't sound like that at all. If that had happened, then Vodafone would have itemised the call to the 020 number but charged for it. The OP said that his calls were charged as direct calls to India, which is totally different. The only way that Vodafone would know that these calls were to India would be if their systems listened in (after the call to the 020 number had started) to hear the tones that were transmitted, which would be illegal for Vodafone to do.

i use a windows mobile handset and it does not log out going calls properly
You're going to have to make more of an effort on that one, as it's your only hope on finding out what happened. Did you use a calling card function of the phone or did you manage the dialling of all the digits yourself?

And the other crucial question is whether the calling card charged you for the calls as well?

If when calling from your mobile you press the green/send key on your mobile again after dialling the follow-on number your be billed by your mobile network.

Yes the calling card shows the reduced balance. Ie the calls are registering on the calling card and is deducting money.
    :(
but this calling card in question does not have an online login like some others to then check the times and dates.
