There will be silence now. Those who gave completely inaccurate information, possibly to the detriment of the OP, won't step up and say they were wrong.

Thank you for all the info in this thread. I am in a similar situation to the OP and couldn't find the info anywhere. From other threads on here it looked like the sanction could be applied from date of claim rather than when the employment finished so I rang the enquiry number I found on direct.gov website. The chap I spoke to didn't know whether sanction would apply from date of leaving employment or from date of claim and advised I rang the new claims line. I rang the new claims line and they couldn't help, just advised to make a claim and then a decision maker would look at it.
At that point I was 2 days from the end of the 26 weeks since I left my job. I made my claim over the phone and went into JCP the following week to meet with an adviser and finish the claim. I was honest that I had resigned and the adviser didn't suspend my claim as I had finished my job 6 months ago (if the letter of the law had been applied then the first two days of my claim should have been suspended pending a formal decision)
This was a couple of weeks ago, I signed on for the first time on Thursday and was told my claim is now in payment. I got the confirmation letter on Saturday
Good luck0 -
