Q re. sanction and effect on 182 days JSA-Cont

Hi,
Just a quick question.
If i were to claim contribution based JSA which would run for 182 days but could have a sanction applied for e.g 3 months from the start of the claim, would the 3 month sanction deduct days from the 182 days/ 6 month JSA-Cont period, meaning i would only be eligible to receive JSA payments for 3 months before having to end the JSA claim?
I am eager to start a claim but am currently in a self imposed sanction period and do not want to waste any of the 182 day JSA-Cont eligiblilty period without receiving any payment.
Many TIA

Yes, it would be deducted from your CB JSA entitlement. Your self imposed sanction will not count.Gone ... or have I?0

Thanks.
I might need to wait a little longer then before starting a claim so that i will have the option of claiming and receiving payment for the full 182 days JSA-Cont period, with no chance of the Jobcentre applying a sanction.0 -
You don't seem to understand. You can't sanction yourself only the DWP can do that.
The sanction will begin (if it is decided that one should be put in place) from when you apply for JSA not from when you became unemployed.
If you gave up your job voluntarily without just cause, etc then you could still be sanctioned when you do apply for JSA - it doesn't matter whether you waited 1 month, 3 months or 6 months before claiming.0 -
Hi
Sorry but i thought that a self imposed sanction (nothing to do with DWP applying it as not claiming) would run from the day i left the employment? If i have served a 6 month self imposed sanction (no benefits applied for or received), the DWP can not then impose a 6 month sanction if i then apply for JSA?0 -
I'm pretty sure that they won't take into account any self imposed saction, they will impose any saction themselves once you've started your claim.0

Yes they can. Any sanction applied will be from the day you claim benefits - any time lapse between you leaving your job and claiming is disregarded.0 -
I found the below on another thread in this forum section. I'm now unsure.
***
Don't wait 26 weeks before you claim as you will wait a further 26 weeks, claim as soon as you finish work.
This is untrue. Days between the employment ending and entitlement to JSA beginning are a self imposed sanction. So waiting the maximum sanction length before claiming will guarantee no sanction from claim start.

Hi,
I searched on this forum's benefit section for 'self imposed'.0
