Thanks so much for all the responses.

I've been in touch with the local scrapyard and they have a cd player which has come out of a 2004 scenic megane. They say I will need to phone Renault to get a code for it. They think it will allow me to still see the digital display and also use the steering wheel controls. The price is £25...does all this sound reasonable?

Is your Scenic a mark one or two. Because the mark two stereo will not fit in the mark one. Mark ones were still being registered in 2003.

Hi flyboy, thanks for responding. My scenic was registered January 2004 and has a 53 plate. The scrapyard say the car the CD player has come from is a 2004 scenic.

    Mark 1

    Mark 2

The mark one has a rounded rear whilst the mark 2 has a squared rear. The bonnet on the mark one goes right to the end, whilst the bonnet on the mark two only goes three quarters. Loads of other differences, but they are the immediate indicators.

Then go for it. Make sure the one you get works in the donor car or you get a warranty. Make sure you get the donor car's chassis number as well. Also you will need to arrange for a Renault dealer to fit it.

Thanks flyboy. The CD player has already been taken out of the donor car but the scrapyard say that if it doesn't work then I can have my money back. They say they will give me the reg number of the car it's come out of but didn't mention the chassis number so I will remember to ask for that, thank you for telling me about it. Is it not something that my mechanic could fit as I am over 40 minutes drive to a Renault dealer?
Does the donor car need to have been a mark 2 also for it to work in mine?

Unless your mechanic is an authorised Renault repairer, he is unlikely to have the necessary equipment to marry the two together. He would need the software to be able to make the stereo match the existing components in the car.

Both cars need to be mark twos.
