OAP drivers

No.
Marmite knows the correct use of the lanes, just uses a different (actually more logical) nomenclature.
But we drive on the left, keep to the left on the Motorway unless overtaking therefore the outside lane on the carriageway you're driving on will be to the right. It would only be more logical if you're looking down at a Motorway from above but providing you're on the Motorway and not in a helicopter you'll never be looking down at it!0 -
This has reminded me of the South Park episode 'Grey Dawn' where the senior citizens keep running people down in their cars:

Seriously though, there are bad drivers in every age group- makes me marvel how the younger ones passed their test in the first place. I do know the ones you mean though OP- the hunched up OAPs squinting out of their car, looking like they can barely see two inches in front of their face.
I believe in Spain once you're a certain age you need to take an eye test regularly to prove you can see well enough to drive, and your license is only valid for 5 years so they can test how well your reactions are as you get older too. I don't see why we can't do the same.0 -

LOL, well for most things the 'outsides' are the edges. And the edges of a motorway are what we normally call the inside lanes.
That's why I said it was more logical.
OTOH, I don't think it's a good idea to continue using non standard terminology as it could cause all sorts of confusion. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Indeed. But consistently doing below the speed limit when the conditions are good suggests lack of confidence or an inability to pay attention to the road or those around you. It's about appropriate speed and 20 in a 30 zone isn't appropriate if the conditions, visibility etc are good. And 40 or 50 on a free-flowing motorway is even worse! I've seen just as many near-accidents caused by people driving too slowly as by people driving too fast."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
There are bad drivers from young to old but the one thing i hate is where someone stays in the middle lane of the motorway and you are going as fast as them in the inside lane.0

Posters who can tell the age of a driver with a single glance, who is unknown to them and enveloped in a vehicle, should contratulate themselves. And tell us how they do it.
anyone else find it hard to tell the difference between a hot 20 year old and a pensioner going for her pension?0 -

Undertake them. It's not an illegal manoeuvre although it *could* in some circumstances be deemed to be careless or dangerous. If you can't easily move out to overtake them in the third lane, and you're merely keeping up with the speed of traffic in the inside lane then I see nothing wrong in undertaking."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
