Aargh MBNA

  • I have just completed an email to my Trading Standards Office reporting MBNA, Amex, Capital One and HFC Bank. I enlosed the copy of the letter I sent to all my creditors three weeks ago, that they have all ignored.

We shall see what happens next!
  • Maybe The Trading Standards Office would be a better place to complain to?

They have powers that the OFT don't have.

    Just a thought!

Don't expect much from TS except lots of reasons and excuses why they can't or won't act.
Please keep us informed of your progress. I hope that I'm pleasantly surprised.:)
  • They better had, otherwise I shall be complaining about them too!
  • Im using my OH MSE and she will probably kill me. I'd just like to say from my experience on MBNA changing your number (s) on there internet banking won't work. MBNA are a bit wiser than that and keep a list of all phone numbers you have had. They also long all incoming calls to them and then pester you on that number too. If thats not bad enough they start sending you text messages such as " Hi its Alex (notice the unisex name) please call me on (Mbna's Number)". It then gets better and you get one saying and I quote " Please call me we need to talk and sort this out (MBNA's number)" Then its the we will send someone round to take items from your house (um Don't think so!!). Best way with them I find is to just treat it as a bit of a laff. When the call centre ring you pretend you suffer from memory loss and you can't quote security details as you can't remember your name let alone your DOB. Another good one is pretend you are 7 years old and your parents have left you home alone and start to cry. Then there is the "Hello Golden Dragon Chinese can I take your order please!":rotfl:

I have just put the phone down after the third call of this afternoon from MBNA and am, to say the least, fuming
I told one of their people at the beginning of the month that I had been declared bankrupt on the 26th of October, yet they have continued to bombard me with phone calls, texts and letters - even offers of contributions to my account if I pay X within 7 days:confused:
Today it has been the turn of an Irish man named John, who wanted to see what I would be doing to bring my 'account' up to date. I duly repeated my br date etc., to be met with 'well you haven't made any payments since July, can you make a payment now?'.
When I asked him what part of Official Receiver he did not understand, he asked for the name and phone number of my Receiver, so that he could contact them directly.
Whilst I know that it's not just me that gets this grief it does not make it any easier to take.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

  • Well I have a success story - MBNA have stopped phoning me - hooray!!!

    Myvesta have sorted them out!!

Rog2 - it is time you reported MBNA to the OFT. If enough people lay a complaint against them something will be done.

However, where someone just posted "that they are only doing their job" that is not true.
You need to listen to the obnoxious attitude from them to comprehend that they are not just doing their job at all. They are downright rude, intrusive, objectionable, obtuse, aggressive and use bullying tactics in order to get you to make a payment.

Couldn't agree with you more, whether they work for MBNA, Barclays, Capital One, they are all the same - perhaps they don't like their jobs?

These people are also highly trained to get you to commit to paying money to them, I remember a guy from HBOS who asked me 14 times if I could make a token payment of £10 and 14 times he got the same answer, "no, I've already paid you £10 this week".

One of these people even threatenend my Wife that if there wasn't a payment made, he'd send the bailiffs the next morning to take her Son's toys, to say she was upset is an understatement (she didn't know at the time our rights and the legal process but wisely hung up) and it was then that I took the action to change the numbers.

(I know what they did was illegal in every sense of the word, but unfortunately we didn't have a tape of the call so couldn't do anything, they just denied it when challenged).

We don't get any calls now, maybe the odd one but we just say we will not confirm personal details over the phone for security reasons and ask for written communication, we also inform them the call is being recorded and they really don't mess around then.
The problem is that MBNA knows that it can get away with its often illegal practices because it is so big. Who will touch IT?

And also the majority of people don't know their rights.

One thing I have noticed with MBNA is that depending what card you have, depends which department deal with it, and some are better than others. when I write to them, unless it's to someone who's already written to me, I send the letter to Philip Crocker and it's these that seem to get results.
