~Sorry I haven`t anything productive to add, but I do sympathise, having been in a similar desperate situation where it seems like nothing can help.
But I really just wanted to say, a huge "I`m really impressed" by the responses on this thread. Unlike some other threads where similar posts would be ripped to shreds, the people here are supportive and friendly and helpful. Lovely to see. :)

Don't be scared of asking SS for help, they gave out milk and nappies vouchers in my local area and probably helped with utilities too. There might be an office in your town centre.

    Best of luck x
  • Thank you winnie 81 for the link. :)

Red doe - I completely agree with you. The support I have received on here has been wonderful. I am so greatful for all the advice and help that people have offered me - I hope that one day I can offer some support to them in return if they should ever need it.

flizzy - I will speak to my HV and see if she knows if there is a local SS office. It can't hurt to see what they can advise. :)

A little update - I have made an appointment with somebody in the Student Finance department at my college for tomorrow. I explained my situation to them and we are going to have a look at what can be done to help ease the situation.

Things still feel a bit overwhelming at the moment, but with the advice I've been giving on here with regards to the food issues, and advice on other things, I know things can get better.

    Thank you everyone!! xx

Gosh what a difference a day makes :D Your last post is so much more positive and upbeat today which means that you must feel the same too. It's all too easy to look at your own situation and genuinely not see a way out and often much easier for others to look in from the outside and try and offer some help.

One of the reasons I love MSE is for the wonderful advice I have been given - and hopefully be able to give back as well. It truly is power to the people :T:T:T
  • Yeh, I do feel a lot more positive. And it is with everyone's help on here that I do.
I wasn't aware of some of the help that was out there, etc. So glad I had my little vent on here now! :)

I would look at renting somewhere cheaper if your HB doesn't cover the rent.

I have tried the moving elsewhere option. But in order to move somewhere else I have to have a months rent and deposit upfront. Which I just cannot afford to save up.
Also, there never seem to be any 2 bed properties available in my town that accept HB - well, there are but I refuse to let my daughter sleep in a room where the walls are covered in mould.

I have thought of going into a 1 bed place and just sleeping on the sofa myself, in order to save money - but then there is the issue of months rent and deposit.
I'm have a deposit scheme with the council, but they wont transfer it to a new LL until the old LL signs it over. The current LL wont sign until I've vacated the property, and no LL will let me move into a property without the deposit first.
  • Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd give a little update (if anybody is interested, lol)
I spoke with my course tutor yesterday and we've agreed that out of the 4 mornings my daughter goes to Nursery, I can have 2 of those mornings off. So I wont have to pay for childcare and I can do the missed work at home.
That saves me about half of the cost of my childcare, so that's a big step in the right direction. We arranged the missed mornings around classes that are mainly home-based work anyway, so I wont be missing out on too much.
So, good start all round. :D

It is interesting that you mention SS, I always imagined them as this big scary gang that only dealt with child neglect, etc. I never knew they offered assistance for other things! That is something else I will look in to, thank you. :)

I'm looking through old style atm, there are some great ideas on there and it is proven helpful.
Starting to feel slightly less over-whelmed now compared to earlier. Phew.

The thought of talking to my mum absolutely terrifies me. Lol. Our falling out was mainly because they didn't like the way I was raising my daughter (choosing to return to college instead of staying at home, not staying with her dad, etc.), so I'm not sure how she would react. :-/

I'm sorry i would never ask ss for help no matter how desperate my situation, i've heard far too many horror stories to put myself on there radar.....
