If you go in and speak to your bank theyll give you it back as a good will gesture.
Both of the banks I have worked in would answer your first question as "It's available for withdrawel but there is still a chance the original cheque may be returned by the drawer's bank, in which case your account will be debited".
Of course, some staff would answer "yes", but they shouldn't.
I wouldn't give the money back as a gesture of goodwill - the bank were not at fault so they shouldn't be expected to cover the costs.Amazon sellers club - member number 63.

.
Well Im with the Bank of Scotland and theyve never said that. I used to get a lot of valuable cheques and I specifically said "so thats clear? theres n oway it can bounce now?" and every person answered yup thats correct.
My bank is a joke.
I went into it with no ID or cards and they still let me pay bills and even arrange an overdraft. I was using a card which was unsigned for 3 months until they noticed too.
I paid a bill for approx £50, then thought damit I needed to keep 10 cash, so I then asked to withdraw £10 at which point they noticed it was unsigned. She said I cant let you take money out now but advised me to use the ATM outside  I said surely if your not letting me take money out then you should be taking this card off me and not telling me to go outside and use an ATM!! And I pointed out Id be a rubbish theif to pay a bill to the value of 50 quid in cash, only to then attempt to steal 10 quid cash.
Bank of Scotland... rubbish haha.
The best one is "Id like to pay cash into THIS account"... provide sort code and account number by which point they simply assume its your account, then say can I pay this bill etc and do other banking. Many times theyve failed to realise I could have simply been quoting someone elses account and sort number :rolleyes:0
