Android phone with good battery?
Options
Is there such a thing?
I am looking for a new phone, my husband has just got the Samsung Galaxy S which I would love ... but the battery last less than a day, He takes the charger with him and charges at lunchtime. It's true that it's the first week and he is using it at the max ... but still ...
I don't mind charging every evening, but it has to last at least until 8 o'clock in the evening...
Is the HTC Desire better at battery life? Any other sugestions?

They are all pretty similar really, I tend to get a good days worth of usage out of mine, but it depends on how you use it.0

Major difference in battery test that PC Pro carried out recently was
SGS 50% left at end of day .
Best figure was 70% left at end of the day HTC Desire z
IOS4 60%
HTC Desire 60%
Replacement Samsung battery for my SGS was £10 suggest cost and ease of replacing of a spare battery should also be factored in .

Really depends on how far you are willing to tinker with your phone. I am able to get almost 3 days battery from my Desire (E-mail sync every hour, around 5-10 SMS per day and around 10-30 mins of calls using Bluetooth connected to the car).
However.....I have rooted my phone and installed a non-HTC ROM onto it with specific power saving scripts. The phone is running Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and I have no issues at all (in fact I don't miss the HTC rom at all).
Note though that if you do this, your warranty will be voided (although there are ways to revert to the original ROM).
It proves that the dire battery life on these devices out of the box is simply the result of the manufacture bloatware being installed and not being tuned correctly.
If you are inclined to do the above, get yourself over to XDA-Developers. they have a forum for most smart phones, thats the place to start.
For info, I am using Oxygen ROM V2.0 RC7, the only item that does not function yet is the 720p video recording which I don't use anyway, this will be fixed once Google release 2.3 for the Nexus One as there are drivers that are required.0 -
Download and install an app killer. That will extend battery life! On my iPhone I set the mail to sync on demand as opposed to push and I switch Bluetooth off and wifi is off. I get 1 1/2 days.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -
Yeah dont use app killers. Also if its your husband has only had the phone for a week then you need to know that the battery takes time to calibrate. usualy after a week or two you will notice the battery lasting longer because
A) your using it less andits been "warmed up" so to speak.
Their is a way to calibrate your battery manualy, give it a go
"Hi *******, I understand your concern regarding battery life on your Nexus One device. The following steps should significantly extend the battery life on your phone. Please connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on. Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone, power it on, and use it. You need to use this sequence only once. If the issue of battery life on our phone persists, I recommend you contact our HTC accessory department directly."
Another thing you can do if it really gets bad is either get a spare battery, (I've done this right from the beginning but have found myself using it less and less as time goes on, still handy though) or/and you can get a second charger/car charger.
Give it another week, I'm sure you will see an improvement as well. PS i also use a custom non-htc rom and that has really increased performance and battery life of my phone to another level(desire hd). Soon as my brother buys his desire I'm gonna unlock, root then re-flash his phone with another ROM (I might leave him with the custom ROM for a week or two so he can appreciate the difference)

Be aware: doing this with your battery will run it down faster (so it gives out less and less power each time and is binworthy sooner then otherwise). This is fine if you do have more then one battery or are prepared to buy more at a later date but if your just an average user and don't want to be rebuying new batteries then maybe think about things a bit. All this I saw being discussed on the agv(?) forums, the link being given on another thread on here somewhere!0 -

Lot of information regarding battery charging is available lots of it just reprints of old battery technology posts and do not apply to many current phone batterys .
The post from HTC Nexus said use the bump charge method once .
That will have no bearing on the life of a battery if done once as described .
