BT is required by its licence to allow subscribers to use all override providers so, if your use of the prefix 18185 failed to correctly route your calls off BT's network, they are in breach of their licence.

Complain (if necessary take it to Otelo and Ofcom).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I am puzzled. I have been using 18185 to call Guernsey. The call registers with 18185 and I get a recorded message telling me Zero pence per minute. Having just checked my BT account, BT are charging me around 10 pence per minute and I have £15.00 charges on my account for Guernsey calls which I have dialled with the prefix 18185. I thought this was meant to be a free call via 18185?

Any ideas where I am going wrong?

Are you by any chance pressing a send key on your phone after dialling the follow-on number ?

I thought about that but he specifically said (post #19) he had used the 18185 prefix (not a gateway number).
