18185 treat CI STD codes just like all other UK 01 STD codes (I have just tried a 01534 and a 01481 number to confirm).

Thanks so much for that Heinz, most kind of you. If they can do it why on earth dont BT?

So if I sign up with 18185, will they just charge for 1,2 or 3 calls per month at 5p connection + 5p per call? Seems to good to be true?

No, the cost is just 5p per call. The only cost for UK landline calls is the connection charge.

I thought is was too good to be true way back in the mid nineties when I signed up and have been surprised ever since.

It was actually even better for a while because the connection fee was only 1p but it steadily increased as the company found they could not make any money at that price.

Thanks for the tip on that one.

Regarding the 18185 service, I cant see any mention of the Channel Islands in the list of charges and I cant find any way to contact them? They dont have a Q&A which addresses Channel Islands.
The customer service is minimal that's why the costs are so low. You just have to go by other peoples experiences of it and I'll confirm as well that it is just 5p to call Guernsey as I call there on an occasional basis on 18185.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

So would this work if I were in Guernsey and calling the UK either from a landline or mobile?

No, it's 5p connection and zero pence per minute - so just a connection charge of 5p for a call of any duration.

That I don't know (although I do know - and as you'll see from their website - calls from mobiles are charged differently).

Is there anyone on here in Jersey or Guernsey can answer? Can you sign up for 18185 and use it from a 01534 or 01481 number?

Both the www.phone.coop and PO Homephone http://www2.postoffice.co.uk/broadband-phone/home-phone-broadband/home-phone

include calls to CI in there 01/02/3 inclusive minutes.

I am puzzled. I have been using 18185 to call Guernsey. The call registers with 18185 and I get a recorded message telling me Zero pence per minute. Having just checked my BT account, BT are charging me around 10 pence per minute and I have £15.00 charges on my account for Guernsey calls which I have dialled with the prefix 18185. I thought this was meant to be a free call via 18185?

Any ideas where I am going wrong?

Dialling the prefix 18185 should have overriden your BT line and BT should not have even 'seen' the call.

You need to dispute those call charges with BT.
