Reward for handing in lost credit cards?

Hi wondering if anyone can advise.

My partner has found a wallet with a number of credit cards and reward cards etc in it.

She has reported it to the police and intends on handing it in to them tomorrow, she has also tried to find a way of contacting the owner directly.

However I have advised her to look into the possibility of collecting any rewards she may be entitled to before handing it into the police as they may not advise her of such.

I have heard that there could be rewards of approx. £50 for handing in lost cards, some forums I have briefly looked up today state a mixture of info, some say there are such rewards and some say there arent but without little evidence.

Could someone please advise me if there are rewards that can be claimed, I'm guessing if there are it would be quite a secret.

Much appreciated.

Yes there is a reward, and quite a generous one - the reward of knowing you've done the right thing and helped whoever lost the wallet and has been worried about the cards being used fraudulently.

    Well done. :T
  • There is a £50 reward for recovering a STOLEN credit card, but this is usually by retailers retaining a card when presented fraudulently. If you lost your wallet or purse, would you want someone holding it to ransom in the hope of a reward?
  • :mad:Jeez op be ashamed, be very ashamed.
  • I've found a purse with CC in it before, phoned the company to tell them I found it and gave them the details of the police station I handed it in to incase the owner got in contact with the card company.

I have also lost my purse with cards, pictures and money in it. It was handed in to the local police station and I sent the finder a lovely bouquet of flowers (£20) as a thank you. I had £40 in my purse when i lost it and looked at this as my being £20 (and a whole lot of hassle) better off.

Surely you wouldn't hold on to a purse/wallet on the off chance you get a reward? Thats not very nice :(

I know we are all about money saving or gaining but I think this is a new level that people have stooped to. It's not very that you are even considering this. Put yourself in their shoes.

My advice would be not to return it. If the wallet had belonged to me, and you called me demanding money before handing it over.. I'd probably wack you over the head with a golf club. The owner of that wallet may do something worse, and rightly so.

The cards may have probably all been cancelled anyway.

  • If I find cards in the street (surprisingly common - at least once every 6 months!!) I just hand them into the bank, or if they are not attached to a bank I cut them up and destroy them!! Never occurred to me to do otherwise! But then I believe in "what goes around comes around".
