Cancelled my direct debit Friday when i visited the bank as i like to tidy up cleared accounts etc. Had a call yesterday from local branch demanding to know why i cancelled my direct debit with a balance of £1500 still owing. I notified him that i had spoken with the complaints office last Tuesday and that my claim was upheld and my account had been cleared along with a refund of £850 being transferred into my account via BACS within 10 working days.
My local office then asked me to call the complaints office to check so i did. The young lady then asked her supervisor to come look and i could hear mumbling in the background. The man i spoke to the week before had read out the detail of a letter that had been generated but not posted. They basically raise the letter giving details of the settlement figures etc before it is signed off for the final time. The settlement was signed off yesterday so i could have potentially had my claim rejected!! I told the supervisor that this was appalling behaviour and i quoted the exact figures i was given to the penny - he said that the person i spoke to went against procedure and any result should be issued in writing.
I got home from work to find a letter from welcome thanking me for my application and that it would be investigated. This was dated last Thursday (two days after i spoke to the guy at welcome!!!).
I rang again and complained about this letter contradicting everything i had been told and the lady informed me that teh account had been settled that day. I checked my bank account and the money had been transferred that very same day. I suspect this only happened because i had every detail written down and i told them i recorded every call.... if i did not keep the details then i may not have received a penny.
I do not have confirmation that my welcome account is settled but i will assume for now that it is as they have paid me my refund. I will call friday to check!
All - BE CAREFUL!!!
I apologise now for the long post and the ranting nature of it. This is my first and I would like to explain everything fully.
I too have an ongoing claim with Welcome Finance. After reading a magazine article by Martin, I started digging around on the internet and found this wonderful site and discovered that I probably would be able to reclaim my PPI.
I sent my original letter on 17 February which they acknowledged receipt of on 18 February. I then received their forms and completed and returned them which they received on 3 March.
I received the FSCS forms on 26 March and returned them on 28 March. I stupidly used the pre-paid 2nd class envelope. To my knowledge this set of forms has still not been received by Welcome. I phoned them on 4 April to check if they had forms and was told no. I then copied everything and sent them recorded delivery which they did receive on 5 April.
As I have been a customer of Welcome for many years my claim is in two parts. Before 2005 and after 2005. I asked about my pre 2005 claim at the same time and was redirected to Ruddington. I phoned them and was told that my claim had been upheld and that a letter had been sent out to me with the settlement form. All I had to do was sign it and return it and the money would be sent to my bank. By the end of last week I still had not received the letter so phoned back. I was told then, that there had been a mistake made with the calculations. They thought that part of my claim had been calculated by the FSCS or the other way round, they couldn't be sure but my claim had gone back to the calculating stage. I was also told at this time that the FSCS had upheld my other part of the claim and that it was being calculated also.
On Tuesday I still had not heard anything so thought I would give them a phone. I know they must be swamped with claims but given that they had already calculated everything and made a mistake I naively thought that they might prioritise this to get it out of the way. I was told that my pre 2005 claim had been calculated and the settlement form had been posted on Monday. To date I still have not received this, so it looks like the whole cycle is starting again.
As far as the post 2005 claim, I'm totally bewildered. I phoned on Tuesday to be told they were still calculating it and was reminded that they didn't receive my form until 5 April and it could take 35 days for them to reply. To my amazement they have now been calculating this for over a week. If they take this long to calculate one claim then how long will it take to calculate 500,000 claims. They told me that a letter acknowledging my complaint was sent on 10 April but I haven't received this either. There seems to be a black hole somewhere between Welcome and Scotland.
To top it all I received a phone call on Tuesday morning from the Luton Branch of Welcome. They called me at 9.30am at work. They stated that my previous branch had closed down and they had taken over my account. My previous branch was in Scotland! They made me go through all the security questions (quite embarassing in a busy office) and then said that my next payment was due on 29 April 2011 and because it was a bank holiday, asked permission to take it on 28th. I said no and explained that my PPI claim was nearing completion (or so I thought) and that the account would probably be paid off by the end of the month. My account is up to date and I only have two payments left on the account with a balance of under £600.
I keep calling Welcome and they are getting more and more annoyed. One person I spoke to actually quoted each and every call I had made and then told me I was just wasting her time and then hung up on me. I phoned back and spoke to a very nice supervisor who assured me he would look in to it. Welcome have fleeced customers for years and now they are having to pay for it, they are getting even shirtier with customers. I just want what I am owed. If the shoe was on the other foot and I owed Welcome money they would be pestering the living daylight out of me.
I have found this whole experience quite daunting but given that Welcome are still giving me the runaround I'm now at the stage where I am prepared to fight on until I receive my money. I just want it to be settled and finished with.0 -
Well done for keeping at them. There is nothing welcoming about welcome from what i have heard :mad:
Hope this is soon sorted for you. Please post up when you have the "cash" in the bank:D0 -
hi
well the cash went into the bank on Monday (after my call strangely enough) and the rest was taken off my account so the total was £2300. i cant complain as i have basically had my £1000 overdraft cleared and my car finance is now settled. I had a call from my local office today confirming this (even left an answerphone message confiming!) and i got home from work to find the fscs letter detailing the settlement.
I started my claim 14th feb, re-started 3rd march via fscs as welcome went into default and it was officially closed today so in all around 6 weeks so not too bad.
cant believe that i am now £300 a month better off and finally own my car. no more welcome finance!!!!0 -

STILL WAITING!!!
Welcome are still using stalling tactics even under the control of the FSCS.
I was told on the phone that my settlement offer for my pre 2005 claim was sent out in the post on 11 April and again at the end of that week. Having still not received it on Thursday 21 April I called them yet again to be told that it was being sent recorded delivery that day. I've still not got it and yes I know there has been a bank holiday weekend but in Scotland we still had postal deliveries on Friday and Saturday!
My post 2005 claim with the FSCS has still not been calculated. I enquired about this on 11 April also and was told that they had upheld my claim and it was at the calculating stage. It's just taking them ages to sort out and I keep being told by them that it can take 35 days from receipt of the forms for this to be settled and have been told to be patient. They state that all claims are being dealt with in the order they are received. I did question the fact that people are posting all over the internet with success stories and that they have already been paid out, with their forms having been received by Welcome around the same time as mine. Welcome wouldn't comment on this. I am disgusted at the length of time it is taking them to calculate this. I would have thought the FSCS would have more control over the way Welcome are treating these cases but obviously not!
Anyone else been paid out by the FSCS in relation to Welcome?0 -
arjames090686 wrote: »Hi Everyone,
I sent off the template letter and FOS questionaire today to Welcome Car Finance's compliance department. Back in Aug 2007 i purchased a vaux corsa and PPI was added to the agreement at a cost of around £2K.
I was informed that 'i was better off' taking the PPI as it made my application a lot stronger. being naive and 21 i went along with this and have since discovered this website and the forums.
All the correspondence have been photocopied and i have included details of the sales persons name etc as i found this on the original documents. Does anyone know how long welcome will take to respond to the initial letter and what i can expect to receive back as a rubbish response?
Ideally all i want is for them to admit they mis-sold and credit against the balance i have left to pay (£1800), i would quite happily settle for this rather than drag it out for the full amount and fight them for cash/cheque.
Alan
Sorry to be a pain, but what address do you send the questionaire to?

hi, i used the address on the prepaid envelope they supplied, however i sent it recorded mail.
hope this helps0
