we moved house last march, and I absolutely love my home,I am at my happiest pottering around the house.
anyway I was enjoying baking cakes, biscuits most days.making meals from scratch and really giving the house a good clean every day. then I took a part time job, which despite short hours involves a 45 min walk each way so effectively 2 days a week it means i only get about 1hr before the kids get in from school/work.
needless to say I havent been baking much and although in all honesty the house is still clean and tidy on those days its annoying me that I am spending my time cleaning someone elses home(myjob) instead of mine.
I earn £46per week which on paper makes a difference but in reality it just gets used up on bits and pieces we would have done without.
now i know it sounds pathetic to begrudge working part time and I feel a bit of a hypocrite that I brought my boys up to know that you have to work hard but I hate going to work.
today has pushed me to the limit in that the sun is gorgeous and there is plenty I could have done at home but I had to go to work. also there was an note complaining of not ironed the shirts properly last week, which I know I did as I always take great care ironing their stuff. it really made me want to quit there and then, but obviously I didnt.
anyway..my thoughts are could i really justify giving up a part ime job just to have more time playing with my house and making cakes..:rotfl:myhusband would support me either way and leave the decision to me.
am i just lazy ?
Of course you can justify it, if it makes you happy and your family won't lose out by your decision

If you can manage without the extra money then give the paid job up and do the things you enjoy. A couple of years down the line, you may change your mind and decide you would like to work again.
I've spent decades in paid work, out of necessity, but my heart was never in it really, I just went for the money. Now I'm retired I am living life as I always wanted and I am finally being "me".0 -
If you would be happier not working and can manage without the money then i would leave the job0

What's the obsession with hard work equalling paid work? You can teach the rewards of hard work in more than one way! IMO being paid a job in cash isnt showing the benefits of hard work, its showing the benefits of having a job. Perservering at home with jobs for people you love is hard work.
Not sure if I have articulated that well, but I hope you get my point.

p.s I'm a cleaner in a private house, there is no way I would do it if I could afford not too!!0 -

IF OP's cleaning job was anything like the ones I did when #1 son was little, the social contact will be nil as they are the ones who prefer working outside the home and paying someone to do it for her.
I was recently made redundant, and my relationship with my boys and my OH has improved no end.....Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
Mmmm well personally I do find it more than possible to bake, cook from scratch, keep a nice house and work outside the home too (30 hours, plus commute) - to have 'only' an hour at home before anyone comes in seems like boundless luxury to me!
However if your job is making you resentful , and you can afford not to do it then of course it should be your choice to pack it in if you so choosePeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Is it the job you're hacked off with, or the type of work? If it's the latter, brush up on your skillset and find one that suits your temparament better..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
You only have one life - if your family can afford to have a happy mum at home, and mum is happy at home - go for it! Ignore the nainsayers - the day will come when you think "I need to do more than bake cakes" - until then - enjoy!!! Bliss!0
