I always post mine in a jiffy which costs more than 10p!!! Ebay postage is so unfair to the seller :(

Try looking on ebay or in the pound shops to source cheaper jiffy bags as that might be a solution in the longer run if you sell a few DVDs.

Thanks for the replies, i think i will have to start the starting price as higher, which is fine since this weekend its free listing!

I understand people used to take the !!!! with stupidly high postage prices, but then i just wouldn't bid on it :-)

I do try to use second hand jiffys and stuff if i have them, and i forgot about second class (duh) so i will put them all down as second instead of first this time round!

£1 does cover p&p for a DVD if as stated it is 81p for postage, and 10p for an envelope - BUT...

If you want sellers paypal protection you have to send registered for proof of delivery - that's another 74p. And if you want the goods to arrive in decent condition to prevent another paypal challenge you need a padded envelope, and they don't exist at the 10p end of the market :-(

    Massively unfair. Massively.

A jiffy bag is a padded bag , if you pad it before you put it in a jiffy then you may well turn it into a parcel due to thickness and it will then cost £1.51 to post. When I referred to a 10p envelope i meant a padded one, I pay around 8p per unit for mine as I buy in bulk, but it is quite possible to buy smaller quantities for aorund 10-12 p DVD size.

also for low end items most sellers would not bother with recorded, so no need to worry about the extra 74p.

Just tried listing a handbag and the maximum you can charge for next day special deliver is £4 and the minimum special delivery cost is £5.05.

Miscategorising items can get you reported and sanctioned - probably not a good idea to suggest workarounds. Mobile's tip doesn't work, you get restricted if you list in a DVD category even if you also list in another category.

You will be surprised how often there are two valid categories for items and how much more you get if you list in both sections. One example is in addition to the main DVD section there is also Sporting Goods > Fishing > DVDs. Same applies to a lot of other DVDs people are missing out on best price for items not knowing this.

To find the best two categories search for similar items and see where else they are listed - obviously ignore any items in wrong categories. Some categories will work with my tip others will not. All are however valid categories for the items being listed. I found this by mistake when listing valid items and spotted a few were above postage limits.

I'm assuming this is an expensive bag so just build the extra postage into your start price. That is all you can do.

I sold some Radley bags last year and they were just over 500g packed weight so cost me well over £6 special delivery.

That's what we did but don't you think it's a bit strong that the maximum they will allow you to charge for special delivery is less than the lowest special delivery price available. It’s going to cost £6 pounds to send bag and maximum ebay will allow is £4.
  • You can no longer charge more for postage than Ebay allow,Ebay is eating itself I am afraid.
