How to charge more postage then Ebay allows?

Hi All,

Been selling some DVD's on Ebay recently. They won't let you charge more then a pound for packaging and postage which i find stupid since it costs more then that to post them, let alone the wrappings/jiffy bag too.

But anyway the problem i now face is i want to sell some boxset DVD's which will cost even more to post and wrap up, but I cannot find a way of changing the postage fee's even tho i notice other people have managed it?

I don't rip people off on postage, just want to charge a realistic price because atm everything i have posted has been more then what the seller paid.

Thanks

If the postage comes to more than it would cost, than build the extra postage into the starting price. So say that to post the boxset would cost £4,00 make your starting price be £4,00 or more.

you will have to factor the increased postage into starting price.. as kite says
ebay making more money on the final values hence only allowing the £1.00 charge..

    typical ebay...

Whilst I accept that you are selling boxsets so will incur a charge greater than £1 I would just answer your other point about how a single DVD cannot go for £1.

Assuming the DVD is over 100g (and the ones i have to hand all are) then 2nd class post is 81p plus an envelope at say 10p brings you in just under £1. SO it is possible, just.

If they are large box sets I suppose you could put the postage down as freight and arrange them to go by courier. The problem is you might out price yourself and not sell any.

Hello OP the majority of people wanting to buy a 'DVD boxed set' will search on that term or a title rather than drilling down to the category. If you search on that term you will find that most of the boxed sets are actually offered with free postage, there are a few on the standard £1 postage, a very few on the courier / freight suggestion posted earlier, a few sold from other countries particularly Ireland. But most of all other sets with high postage AREN'T listed in the DVD category itself but DVD sub categories of other areas. So educational, sport, joblots, collectors etc.

I always post mine in a jiffy which costs more than 10p!!! Ebay postage is so unfair to the seller :(

I send DVD's in padded jiffy's that I can get in Proper Job, they cost £1 for 10 and I've never had a problem.

Try listing in two sections with the DVD section the extra section and you may find the limit disappears. Not sure if it always works but I found some of my listing were over sections limits when I did this. Works well on free listing weekends when you can list in extra section for free.

Miscategorising items can get you reported and sanctioned - probably not a good idea to suggest workarounds. Mobile's tip doesn't work, you get restricted if you list in a DVD category even if you also list in another category.

Listing using the courier option might also strike you as clever but if you get reported, you also get sanctioned for stating you post by RM.

The rules are there for a purpose, you might not like them, but they were to stop people mucking about with the postage on regular items. The safest thing to do is accept it and move on. You aren't allowed to charge postage when you list similar items on Play, nor are you able to alter what Amazon give you as a postage credit, so this is not exactly only eBay doing this.
