Do you still live at home or not? If you do you could cook her a lovely meal and do some pampering sessions at home - very little expense! Even if not living at home this could be done!!!

    Hi,

It's my mums 50th soon too, and although i can't afford the facelift she keeps asking for (!!!) I will be giving her a magazine subscription plus some very nice skincare products which i couldn't usually afford. If you look at the 'Magazine Offers' thread at the tope of the 'Shop but don't drop' forum you will see loads of magazine subscription offers - eg subscribe to Red magazine for £6 for six issues and get a Decleor skincare set worth £49.

It may be too late for you to get this in time though?

  • Hi
It depends how tight the budget is, but for my dad's 60th we spent our time rather than out money collecting together a scrap book/memory box that we asked other people to contribute to, ie contacted old friends from school/college/work and asked them to write their memories/give us old photos that we could use. He loved it especially as it gave him an excuse to get in touch with people he'd not spoken to for ages to say thank you. I suppose it also depends on how your mum feels about turning 50 though, my mum said she'd hate it if we gave her a reminder of just how old she is!

    Hi clever fellow MSE-ers

It's my mum's 60th birthday in a month but I've absolutely no idea what to get her. I was thinking either a piece of jewlery or maybe a special day out for the two of us... So difficult to get something that's right. Has anyone got any wonderful suggestions?

    Plleeeeeeeaaase help me!!!

    What does she really like?

    Beauty treatments?

Tea at the Ritz or posh hotel near you

Day trip to Paris on Eurostar?

Day of cookery or artwork of some kind?

Posh hamper with her favourite author's books, chocs, face pack etc?

    thanks elona

she enjoys walking (although this is getting more difficult for her now), patchwork (very keen), cooking, although she is very open minded and up for anything (she went on a micro-light flight a few months ago!). She lives in cheshire so something in the north-west would be good.
Hamper is also a good idea...

How about a spa day. The David Lloyd in Cheadle is good. My friend's mum got given a spa day there for her 50th and she loved it. Depend's where in Cheshire you are though but there are other David Lloyds.

  • My mother was 60 in december.
We sent her so a spa for treatments then when she got home we handed her a glass of champange told her to get ready for dinner, we had a family meal then we had party games.
she said it was great to have a bit of luxury and a bit of fun.

Perhaps you could make her some jewellery (see Hobbycraft for ideas)?

    A spa day sounds nice.

Could you design a patchwork design for her online?

A family meal always goes down well with my mum.

Does it need to be cheap? for my mum's 60th me and my brother clubbed together and got her a Lalique case that she loves.

If not, then jewellery - simple gold/pearls/diamonds you can't go wrong with really. You can get necklaces with a diamond chip on for about £50.

For my mums 60th birthday we put together an album with family photos.
The album was a "canvas" looking cover with a formal photo on it (professionally printed).
We have pictures of her children, some kiddy ones, some graduation, both informal and formal pictures.

It took some time, because my husband had to scan, print and cut the photos but it was an individual gift.

Cost was around £65 I think.
