Cancelling Sky - Not in my Name??
Comments

That will only work if you can give the male friend the security info
Obviously.

i was in a similar situation for ages. then got told to write and explain and ta i could then cancel my dd. i did that but they denied receiving it. however after payment stopped they cancelled the contract and they started chasing my ex through a credit agency for one months payment
'she' called them and explained, and i had to pay just the one outstanding dd
i could have done this over a year ago if they hadn't fobbed me off, but my advice is just stop paying. then settle the final demand (makingit clear you are doing that and not restarting the contract)0 -
I managed to cancel an account in an old flatmate's name (he'd moved out and I'd changed the DD to my account), but I had most of the security information. However, I didn't know his mother's surname (forgot to check before I phoned), so in the end I said "look, we can either do this the sensible way like adults and I can talk to you and get this cancelled, or I can cancel the direct debit, your choice". They went with my choice.
After phoning again to make sure that everything was cancelled after receiving an odd letter about Sky Talk continuing, I did just find however that they've debited my account for yesterday for £22 line rental and broadband from 16/3 to 15/4, even though I cancelled on 2/2 for the 28/2 onwards. I phoned them up quite right rather !!!!ed off about this, and they said that there is now a credit on the account of £28 which will be refunded next month on the 16th. What kind of a business practice is that? If they do that with every cancelling customer, they'll be making a bit of money on the interest no doubt.
So I suggest if you cancel, cancel the direct debit too.
Edit: interestingly, I've also been told by them in the past that "the only way an account can be transferred in name is if the person dies". That's why I ended up in the stupid situation where my flatmate's name was still on the account in the first place!0
