  • Good luck for your overpayments Juicy girl and your journey to be mortgage free. Also good luck with the IVF you may find the website fertility friends useful. Its a great support with the rollercoaster ride that IVF brings. Take care x
  • Hi all,

Not much to report here. Mr Juicy is doing a fab job of jabbing me every night and I'm expecting my egg retrieval to be on Wednesday.

As a result spending has been very low, I'm not really in the mood for the shops. Recently discovered the benefits of Costco and am saving quite a bit on the monthly food shop by combining this with the supermarket.

Overpayments likely to be low or nil over the next month or two- I'm self employed and with all the time I'm taking off at the moment things are likely to be tight. I also think a holiday whilst we wait on the outcome of the IVF would do us good, our mental health is just as important as our financial help at the moment!

Aims for the rest of the weekend:

    -one poll surveys
    - minimal spends in supermarket tomorrow
    -meal plan before I go
-packed lunches organised for the week
    - no using the car unless essential
    - find and list three items for eBay

Have a good weekend everyone! X

Wow, this seems like a big change from where you were when you first started this diary. Money saving has truely kicked in, and even though you aren't overpaying, if you stay in this mind set, when you are ready to do so you'll slice through that mortgage of yours!

  • Just wishing you well JG- we too have had friends who have get pregnant on IVF, just been born in fact. What a beautiful baby! Costco I think is one of the best shops in the world - so cheap! We go monthly and get a big shop, mainly meat and bags of big veg.
Things we think that are great value:
    a) Covent Garden Soup (we always have loads of these in the freezer) - half the price of supermarket
    b) Mission brand wraps - again half the price of even own brand wraps from other supermarkets.
    c) Meat1 All of it. I spoke to the butcher on Thursday, when I went shoppign and he was telling me that the quality is generally al above the "Best" end of supermarkets- something I broadly agree with.

The only thing I dislike about Costco is that I budget a set price per week and going to Costco means that inevitably we spend a ton of money which blows my budget for that week, although I have to remember that it's food that will last for several weeks or if frozen months.
Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved
September 2016 - Back into clearing a mortgage - Was due to be paid off in 32 years in March 2047 -
April 2018 down to 28.00 months vs 30.04 months at normal payment.
Predicted mortgage clearing 03/2047 - now looking at 02/2045

Aims: 1) To pay off mortgage within 20 years - 2037
  • The other thing we do is buy stuff then share with friends - e.g. when loo roll is on special offer, we buy a huge quantity of them then sell them to our friends at cost price so we gain and so do they :)

  • Thanks for that!

I'm still learning about Costco so all tips gratefully received. I'm bought loads of chicken breasts last time I was there, delighted with the quality (some currently marinading for the tikka masala I'm making tonight) and they were much cheaper than buying from the supermarket. Didn't think the red meat was any cheaper, in fact maybe more expensive ( am I right???), but it did look good. might get some next time. The price of washing powder has been my biggest bargain to date I think.

Toying with the idea of getting a second freezer for the garage so I can really stock up when I'm there. Can't decide if the cost of this and the extra leccy will be worth the savings and petrol costs of the Costco run. Hmmm.

Weekly shop today £29.98 at Mr S. Wanted to keep it under £30 so just on budget! Not planning on spending a penny now til next weekend, and hopefully that will just be top up groceries too.

Enjoy the rest of your Sundays everyone xx
  • Hi all,

Little happening here mortgage wise at the moment, IVF at the forefront of our minds. My egg retrieval was yesterday so I'm a little tired and sore but otherwise ok. Resting at home today and back to work tomorrow ( not working means no pennies for me cos I'm self employed), then off again for a couple of weeks.

So this week so far I have achieved:

-3 nsd's in a row (aiming for a 4th today although I am craving some Chinese food!)
    - one poll surveys
    - spending diary kept up to date
    - packed lunches taken to work by both me and mr juicy

    Today I plan to:

    - meal plan for the week ahead
    - clean my house and do some light gardening if I feel up to it
    - make some homemade soup
    - wrap up and sit in the garden with my book, should keep me out of the shops ( I am dying for a magazine! )

Hope it's sunny where you are today!

    Xxx
