Odd telephone call from First Credit Limited

They passed my "account" on to a few people. Every time they did, I just faxed them the same info and they sent it back to First Cretins Ltd informing me that they wouldnt take it any further.
The final outcome of my situation is that I phoned up Barclaycard again and explained the situation. They were happy to have the default removed against my name on the strength of the information I gave them. I read out my documents to them over the phone and they were satisfied with my explanation.
Interestingly - I'm sure First Cretins still have a file open on me. They wrote to me about a month ago saying that they had received my information (which I sent them in January) and I should call their office urgently to discuss it.
I sent them a letter back explaining that I would not speak to them on the telephone (as I had already mentioned this in the letter I sent them in January) and I sent them the email I was sent by their litigators - explaining to me that they (first cretins Ltd) had closed the case as fraud. I have that on paper so its legally binding.
I asked them to reply to me by post, indicating that the situation was indeed resolved. As you'd expect - I've heard absolutely nothing from them. It seems to take them on average about 4 months to reply to any letter you send them so I'm still expecting them to be back in touch.
Anyway - I'm not concerned. I have a solicitor who is fully up to date on the whole thing and has copies of everything. He has said to me basically dont stress it, ignore the morons and if they want to go to court we will be ready to make fools of them in front of a judge. They really dont have a leg to stand on.
One puzzling thing about the way they work is that on many occasions they have phoned me and then just hung up. I dont understand why they do that.0 -
Oh how I wish I'd have read this forum just a few hours earlier!
I too received a badly formatted letter from 1st Credit back in May claiming I owed £279.95 for a debt with Powergen - though no period was specified.
They sent the letter to my parents' house where I haven't lived for over 10 years and now live 350 miles away.
I called 1st Credit and asked them what period this was from. They didn't know and said to contact Powergen and that they would have to stop the solicitors from acting as it had already gone through to them.
I spoke to Powergen and they said it was for a period back in 2001. Strangely they also stated I had gas with them too during this period and that I had paid that off. Something sounded suspicious so I asked for statements to be sent out so that I could look at them and pass them to energywatch to see where I went from there.
1st Credit called again and asked for payment, I told them I was waiting for the statements.
A week later I sent an email to 1st credit to ask where the statements were and to ensure they sent them to the correct address - that was 9th July.
15th August I sent another email to state I still had not received the statements.
17 August - Received extremely rude phone call from 1st Credit demanding full payment or they would take me to court and put a note on my credit record today. I told them I hadn’t received the statements. They said they’d sent them to my parents’ address. I asked why they’d be so inept to send them to the incorrect address, but they claimed I had told them to do so – obviously I didn’t. They claimed I’d never given them my details and even had the audacity to suggest I was of no fixed abode and so that’s why they were sent there. I asked how they knew my mobile number and where I worked if I hadn’t have told them and so why would they not have my current address.
Unfortunately, after keeping my calm for a while I panicked and paid. The reason being is I have just applied for my first mortgage last night and thought it would affect that. The woman on the phone stated that I could pay to stop any action and claim the money back after my dispute.
I really was stupid and believed her, but now after reading all this I realise how foolish I have been.
Does anyone out there know if I have any recourse to get this money back as I still believe I owe nothing – I certainly don’t now anyway!
p.s. The good news is that of course there was nothing on my credit record and I’ve just found out that the mortgage went through successfully. So I have reason to celebrate and drown my sorrows tonight. Extra drunk, the missus will be pleased.
Thanks once again if you’ve read my ramble. Even if there is no way I can get my money back, it will hopefully stop other people from making the same idiotic mistake!0 -
Have read all these posts with a big gaping mouth lol...I've never heard of this company before and am gobsmacked at their tactics...
However not wanting to teach "me grandmother to suck eggs" to coin an old phrase I thought it might be useful to tell you some things I discovered in a former job I did some years back (I hated every second of it btw)...
Basically I was employed by a private company to find people on behalf of financial institutions of all varying kinds....and in a nutshell you would not believe the ways and means we had of tracking someone down, getting their mobile number, their place of work, inside leg measurment etc..
Also we did of course come across alot of fraud cases and in most cases of fraud it involved a recently deceased person or someone who had moved house...there a few precious hours when moving when your former home is most vulnerable and the silent fraudsters hit.....they get your details, apply for credit cards etc in your name or a deceased persons name....intercept the postman, and then advise the credit card company for example of a new address and then run up their thousands of pounds of debt in your name.....
We had to be extremely deceitful in order to track people down, but never got involved we just passed all the contact information back to the "client"....like I said I hated every minute of it, because I couldn't stand the deceit!0 -
Oh dear,
I received a call from these morons this morning, I wasn't really sure who they were so I checked the internet and was guided here.
Basically a fella phoned and asked for Miss or Mrs **MY surname**, and then said my first name, so I said that was me, he said the call may be monitored bla bla bla, then he asked me to confirm my date of birth so I told him that he had called me and that I wasn't going to give out my d.o.b, so he said he couldn't continue with the call if I dont, so I just said thats fine. Then he said well you've just confirmed that you are ***** so we will have to contact you by letter and put the phone down.
So now they know my mobile number I will no doubt keep getting these calls.
The thing is in my case, I HAVE had debt, in fact I was unfortunately made bankrupt earlier this year, so even if it is a genuine debt the Official Receiver (who deals with my assets after bankruptcy) should hopefully be able to deal with these people for me. The people I owded money to should have already been contacted by now though so I don't know why they are now contacting me.
But I am now worried about these people contacting me etc.WINS of 2008 :j

I can not believe these bullies........
This sort of thing makes my blood boil.
I think any company that either contacts you, or you contact them, and their representative refuses to give you their name, is sooooo not worth their salt. They should be told that if their name and employee number is not provided to you, then the call will be terminated immediatly.... and stick to it !!
A lot a companies that you call these days, states " calls recorded for training purposes" If you have been provided with the employees name ect.. I would ask them if their recorded calls would be used for any court proceedings. See what sort of response you get then...
I agree that all correspondance with any company of this sort should only be done by letter....... and you should given them a time limit to that... ie.. "Please respond within 14 or 28 day otherwise I shall consider this matter closed". I would also ask them that if they do reply to you by post, then they should do so by recorded delivery. I know this protects them...but also yourself as proof of date delivered ect. And the same goes for you sending letters to them... recorded. I would not even entertain corresponding by e-mail with these bullies...... Why should you make it easy for them ????
If I receive something in the post that I knew was not mine.. NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS is written on it and its put back in the post box.
If someone calls me on my landline number, and asks to speak to me, I always ask who they are and what company they are from. If they refuse these simple details, I polietly say "thankyou for your call" and simply hang up. Nothing more. If the phone rings again within the next few moments... then it rings.
If they state who they are and the company they are with, and I have no dealings with that person, or their company, I tell them they have a wrong number... Although I have previously turned the TV up and let them listen to Eastenders or This morning for half an hour... then hung up. I have also told them that I was person passing a phone box........
I would adopt the same attitude for my mobile, if I received a random phone call, but I only give that number out to personal contacts.. never to companies.
I am not saying that any of my above actions or thoughts are correct, and that others reading this should do the same, but it does and did make me feel more in control of the situation. All I am saying is that sometimes bullies need to have a little bullying back........
I do not tolerate being treated badly, in my own home, either by e-mail, phone or by letter. If someone tries this tactic then, ultimately, they are then treated the same way.
For the info of MSE'er receiving such calls........... The telesales preference number is 0845 0700 707.
When you call and register, your number is removed from the Telesales list...which means random companies cannot cold call you... it also stops certain phone numbers calling. I believe that 0870 numbers is included in this.... but not 100%.
Although this does not stop all companies from phoning your landline number, it does help remarkably.... and it is a free service. From BT (I think). Since I have registered... I no longer receive cold calling from companies. Nor do I receive calls for the previous occupier of my telephone number
Sorry for ranting...... Thanks for listening0 -

Hi Michael
I'm sorry you're being harassed by these incompetent bullies. Go to the consumer action group and have a look on the debt section, you should get all the help you need on there. If you can't find what you need just post and someone Will come along fairly quickly to tell you how to deal with them and stop them chasing you for a debt that is not yours. Hope this helps you and good luck but don't back down and don't let them win, and once you've posted on the CAG keep posting as yo will receive loads of support. The letter you need is for the true copy of the credit agreement, which they wont hve so will pass the debt back to Barclaycard who will have to deal with it and of course with the correct person, but try not to let them get you down as ther is a light at the end of the tunnel.0 -
I have just come to the end of a battle with 1st credit that has lasted several months. I received a letter stating that I owed over £300 for a debt I knew nothing about. To cut a long painful story short, I advise anyone who this happens to to do the following:
- don't ring them - they want you to as it makes them money but you won't resolve anything by ringing them
- write to them stating that you don't believe you owe the money and ask for all info they hold on you ie ask for a subject access request under the Data Protection Act.
- establish who sold the debt to them and do the same with that company
- do this until you establish the original company who are 'owed' money (in my case NEXT Directory) - the info they hold about you, assuming you are innocent, should enable you to prove you don't owe the money - in my case I was able to prove that I didn't live at the address from which the fraudulent person ordered goods - I had moved out over a year before and had proof of house sale and council tax records for my new house - you can write giving your permission for them to write to council tax records about you etc
- I have finally had a letter from NEXT apologising and offering a £25 voucher in compensation that I won't be accepting! The cheek of it! All the stress and threat of prosecution, a day's worth of admin etc - no way!
Good luck!0 -
Liars. They buy your details off other companies and lie to you and try to trick you. The big problem? It's legal...Caesar si viveret, ad remum dareris(If Caesar were alive, you'd be chained to an oar):starmod: :staradmin :starmod:"It's good to be back"0

Ok - Let me help some you
I am an ex employee of 1st Credit Ltd and yes they are in situated in Reigate Surrey - Lesbourne road in fact!!!!
Let's get one thing straight - they are by far a really good company and are a lot more helpful in allowing people to pay off there DEBTS.
Alot of people do feel they can spend money and not pay it back - let's face it people YOU ARE STEALING!!! Anyway I am still prepared to help those who want to be thieves so here goes!!
1 - 1st credit DO NOT add any interest or charges to the amount you will receive - whatever you owed the bank, credit card company, british gas etcc is what you owe
2 - If your a homeowner your fcuked...they will take you to court and you could lose your home - sorry peeps but thats the way it is. Now for all those people that rent- HAPPY DAYS - They will not, cannot be bothered to take your to court - therefore dont pay them. You will have a bad credit rating but lets face it you probably dont care or you would have already paid it off.
3 - 1st Credit like to clear a debt within 7 years so if you want to offer them a min amount just divide your debt by 84 and thats the min they will be happy with!!
4 - The lowest percentage they will go to to clear the debt is 70 percent- this is a discount of 30!!!
If you have questions please ask and I will ty to help - seeya :rotfl:0
