Having moved a year ago, I've found that most of the chip shops near me are complete rip off merchants. They charge over £2 for a large portion of chips that's the same size as my old chippy's kiddies portions. The rip off chippy's use a bag branded with Fish N Chips in blue, and the ones they use for large portions are the ones that chippy's in other areas use for their small portions! I've ended up going back to my old chippy, a 5 mile journey each way! Good job it's on the way back from work.0

Ever heard the saying 'cheap as chips'?

my local one is the same, a mini fish and one small portion of chips feeds both of us. There is a kebab house down the road which DS decided to try a few weeks back, he arrived home with a Chicken Tikka Naan and a portion of chips which actually fed him as well as OH and I, and all for a fiver

Thankfully its a rare treat lol0 -
Our chippy is ok and we can ask for a "cone" of chips.
The thing that gets me is the salt and vinegar, we never have it on, but they are always half a second from putting it on when they say "salt and vinegar?".

My local chippy isn't quite so generous as the OP's! They are really good in giving me loads of scraps, though! From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0

Around these parts, most chip shops will give you pretty much the same quantity of chips whether you ask (and pay) for small, medium or large. The "default" price if you just ask for "chips" seems to be medium, but there seems to be a difference of very few chips between a large, medium or small, it certainly doesn't equate to the price difference as you might expect, often the same tray size is used and it depends on the generosity of the server and how busy the shop is as to whether they are piled high or meanly spread over the bottom of the tray. Maybe there should be regulations to require the chip shop to display the approximate weight or number of chips of the different portions, because at the moment it is just another case of rip-off Britainsquaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0
