How do you 'teach' initiative?

    you can teach initiative but think you need to start young. 18 is not really an age at which your parents can start teaching you a new skill.

    Allow me to let you into a little secret; men know when the ironing/washing/gardening needs doing, they'd just rather not do it so it's easier to just wait until they're asked. That's the reason men generally show great initiative when doing something they enjoy but not so much for the everyday tasks.

    Men can cope with a lot more mess than women can.

    and if they are asked to do something (and occasionally, when they *do* show initiative) and they don't want to have to do it again (willingly or if asked) they offer the 'practised incompetence' behaviour (also known as 'ballsing it up') which means it's easier/quicker for the domestic partner to carry out the procedure themselves in future..
    Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
