To make your own really good 'Bailey's':

Make a pint of strong instant coffee.
Add a large can of condensed milk and half a pint of double cream or cream-tyoe product - I use Elmlea Double.
    Stir well.
Add whisky (or brandy) a little at a time - keep tasting (Not too much!!!) till it's as strong as you like it.
    Chill in the fridge.
You have over 2 pints for a fraction of the cost of Baileys, but be warned - it won't last long!.
I'll be trying out the recipe posted earlier to see if it's as good as this one. Why not make both and compare them!

    Happy Christmas!

In yesterday's Independent (taken from Which magazine) they did a blind tasting survey of 20 different champagnes - and the Sainsburys and Somerfield own brands came out top - with Moet & Chandon bottom!

And one of the highlights was Cava from the Co-op, which was rated 12th (I think). It is currently on special, at £3.99, instead of £7.99 (until end of December)

If you're interested in paying £3.99 for something which is better than many champagnes, then it is Marques do Monistrol, Vintage Cava 2001.
  • Tesco are offering 25% off 6 bottles or more of mixed wines, fortified wines and champagnes, till Tuesday. This includes their special offers, so there are some really good prices.
In their Greenock store they have Chateau Neuf de Pape reduced from £13.99 to £7.99 shelf price, so if you buy 6 mixed bottles, that comes down to under £6 for a very decent wine to accompany the Festive meals.
At the bargain end of the market, on their website, Tesco .com, they also offer own brand Australian Red at £24.03 for 12 bottles, £2.03 per bottle.
It won't get you cred from the sophisticates, (you can always serve it in a decanter to hide the label) but it's very quaffable at the price. They've also got Chilean, Argentinian or S African at similar prices.
I hope you can afford to take advantage.
Personally, I can't afford to save anymore !!!
