Why won't SD card work in Hifi USB slot?

Options
Hi,

Have been looking around for a cheapish hifi, with USB slot.
Bought the sandstrom hifi from Currys http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/sandstrom-shfusb10-micro-hi-fi-system-black-05057336-pdt.html
Liked the look & the sound playing CD's is really good. However, tried the USB slot, and although the card reader flashed green, nothing happened?
I took the san disk SD card & reader into Currys and tried the one on display, again, nothing happened.
I then went along their display of hifis & must have tried a dozen or so, only one (an expensive Sony) worked?
Can anyone explain why the memory card would work in one but not in others?
Thanks

Have you checked what filesystem the SD card is formatted with? On a Windows PC you can tell by right-clicking on it and choosing properties.

Then check the HiFi's spec to see what filesystem format - and what media formats - it will support.
  • Hi I'm going on what your post says and I've went to the currys site and found what appears to be the device. You say it has a USB slot but wont take an SD card. Thats because USB flash drives fit into USB Slots and SD cards fit into SD Slots. By the information on the curry's site it says nothing about SD support. I don't know if this is just a small mistake in terminology in your post, and the currys site not having all the info but you need to be more careful so that we can help you.

Is your SD card a SDHC card?

A device needs to specificaly support SDHC else it will only work with standard SD cards.

Hi, I have an SD card, which is in a USB card-reader

    Id say thats your problem

You should be using a standard usb stick (i also assumed you had used the wrong terminology)

Hi, the SD card is from DSi - I've just checked the format of the music files, and they are MPEG.4
